Hi guys, I'm a native Simplified Chinese speaking gamer and a passionate freelance English-Simplified Chinese video game localization translator. I am hoping to help more devs, especially indie devs, bring their brilliant games to the Chinese player community!
@JustAnotherTL It surprised me in a similar way, as it's like no one along the decision-making chain for this understand how dominant different perception of gen AI can be outside China or eastern Asia, even if we look at this contest from a pure branding perspective
@JaufreVF@Ucankabak@JustAnotherTL I think the justification for having someone different doing lqa (both 2 & 3) may be that a different brain, not just another pair of eyes, can be needed to validate certain approaches are good enough. I kinda get that, as one can indeed be blinded by their own preferences
Who should take care of LQA of a game? 1. Linguists that worked on its localization, 2. other linguists from the team that worked on its localization, who can discuss with them, or 3. someone outside the team? What's your choices and opinions? Thank you in advance!
@Jonathan_Blow It quite depends on the exact style of the Latin letter font, if you want the Chinese font to match its style to some extent. Noto serif can be a safe option, but it can look too bland and formal
@Ucankabak@JustAnotherTL As for 3, in my experience, mostly as a receipient of LQA feedbacks, this approach works the least effecient and effective, because it's almost the opposite of No.1, plus again the great point @JustAnotherTL raised.
@Ucankabak@JustAnotherTL Theoretically speaking, 2 should be an ideal alternative to having linguists checking their own work in-game, but I can imagine that to require good channel of communication and fair compensation for time spent by both, which seems not sufficiently common across the industry 2/3
Yeah, to get the most intuitive idea of mixup of Han characters for the Chinese, Japaense or Korean version of a game or software, it's like ь is diplayed as b or а displayed a for languages using the cyrillic alphabet or the other way around for those using the latin script.
Warning to all indie game devs, localizers, voice actors, or even content creators!
Our Korean localizer, Boa Eum, had her google & discord accounts hacked yesterday. It happened because she downloaded a "game" that had malware that took her information after she played it.
Her gmail and discord got hijacked even though she had 2FA enabled.
Please be careful of sudden sketchy messages even from your friends asking you to play their game. As they might be compromised.
Download only from official sites and not directly from a google drive or any other cloud storage. And always run a virus scan before opening anything. Didn't know this could happen to one of our team mates. But it did. So please take care out there.
Boa is our most hard working Localizer and it sucks that this had to happen to her.
I think something similar happened to @SayuriArtsy too. Also tagging @TheRoyalSkies since he made a very informative video about it.
I think the perpetrator is still circulating around the indie dev scene. And it sucks so much since us indies don't have much going on for us now we also have to deal with this thing.
