Sunday morning a convicted felon posed as a ride share driver and kidnapped a couple at gunpoint. He took the woman to his home where a rape may have taken place. He is already out of custody.
Per a source, @TxDPS troopers seized around 70 lbs of meth, engaged in 5 vehicle pursuits, made 14 felony arrests, and encountered several gang members on Thursday, their first day of the Austin Violent Crimes Task Force op.

@CMQadriD9 You should have serious concerns about the violent crime, thefts, and rapes happening in and near your district but you've said nothing about those issues. This was the right move made by Mayor Watson.
@mattlargey@KirkPWatson When there's not a police presence it emboldens criminals which makes people feel unsafe. Walked around downtown lately? Many homeless people, some are mentally ill or drug addicted, and bad actors that support their habits. 2 violent rapes, car jackings, burglaries, etc. lately.
@rickcofer APD couldn't handle the crime in the city and has 280 or so vacant positions. People being put on hold with 911 and having to wait hours for an officer to show up is unacceptable, something had to be done. This is a good move by the mayor.
