Posting this for the Latter-day Saints, but for those who aren’t I hope it’s instructive regarding our faith.
A few weeks ago, I was invited to give a talk in sacrament meeting. In my preparation and study, I came across a pattern in scripture regarding personal revelation that I thought was fascinating, and in particular the kind of revelation we should be seeking in the temple.
Throughout the scriptures, we see prophets having revelatory experiences in the wilderness or upon mountains. Mountains often acted as temples when no temple was present, and Isaiah refers to the temple as the “mountain of the Lord” (Isaiah 2:3). Now, what was revealed to these prophets?
In the New Testament, Jesus brought Peter, James, and John into a mountain where He was transfigured before them. They then heard the Father revealing His Son. Peter, James, and John thus had the true nature of Christ revealed to them.
Moving now to the Book of Mormon. Nephi was taken into a high mountain by the Spirit of the Lord in 1 Nephi 11. He is told he will “behold a man descending out of heaven, and him shall he witness” (1 Nephi 11:7). This, of course, is the Son of God. Once again, upon the mountain, Christ is revealed to someone.
Last example, we move to Ether. The brother of Jared had questions for the Lord, as we often do when attending the temple, and he studied and prepared and then went to the mountain. There, he had an extraordinary experience where he witnessed the spirit body of Christ. Once again, Christ is revealed to someone upon the mountain (the temple).
So what does that mean for us? We should be attending the temple well prepared, bringing our questions that we have studied to the Lord. What we should seek is not only answers, with faith the Lord can make them known, but we should seek to know Jesus Christ. When I say know Him, I mean seek after revelation that will teach us of His character and nature. It is the most important knowledge we can have, and the Lord provided a pattern through the scriptures that teaches us we should be seeking these things.
Jesus Christ is real and He lives, and I hope whoever reads this comes out with a desire to know Him even better. He loves us more than we can possibly know. I wanted to keep this fairly brief but if anyone wants, I can dive into this further!
@bonchieredstate They may fall back on government threat as an excuse but it’s pretty clear it was a business decision. Networks are in the business of making money and Kimmel was a liability
@AutismCapital I’d like to see how much money his show was losing ABC. This was likely a business decision they’ve been wanting to make for a long time
The issue here is the “he can totally avoid us” - don’t let your children become isolated, spend time with them and take interest in their interests. If you don’t, they will be raised by others.
@Normonism @LargeInStature_ I agree with this and I trust and believe they are aware of the worldwide challenges members face and they take those concerns to the Lord.
I know at the end of the day the Lord is at the helm and what we receive is what He thinks is best for us.
@Normonism @LargeInStature_ But the teachings have been reaffirmed in this case, so why does it need to be wished for?
My concern is if someone wishes for specific reaffirmations and those reaffirmations don’t come in the way they want or expect, what then?
