If NHS trusts hadn’t had to pay more than £1.8 billion in *interest charges* to private companies, that money could have paid for the starting salaries of over 50,000 NHS doctors 😮🚨
This is very wise. I also think it will prove very difficult. I have been struck by the vehemence of opponents of assisted dying, who seem certain it will produce coercive deaths and are not much moved by the terrible stories of pain and suffering which motivate supporters. Nor reassured by any safeguards put in place. They think our position shameful and a dialogue has proven hard. But Luke is totally right. This is a very difficult subject and there are strong arguments, as well as feelings, on both sides. We should try and listen respectfully to each other. And I am determined to do that even when it isn’t reciprocated.
@JujuliaGrace Theres an important context lots of reporting is missing. If the Shadow Secretary of state for XXX attends an event they have to declare it, if the Secretary of XXX attends the same event it's an official function and they don't declare it. So the figures are distorted!
@JohnSimpsonNews I didn't quite make it to your evening at the Lowry, but would love to hear of all your scary moments in war zones and interviewing people of dubious sanity when did you most think "I may have underestimated the risk here!"
I remember when I lived in Conneticut a girl catching Canada Geese on the local lake, whenever she did it everyone else just stood gaping going "this is going to go horribly wrong any second now!"
