@Christianitymag@liccltd That’s not a great thing to say! It’s God who saves. One plants another sows, but it is God who makes it grow. We are to be faithful with the gospel, but only God actually saves. That means I may sow and potentially never reap, or by the amazing grace of God I sow and reap!
👎Beware of lists like this about Jesus 👎
Jesus...
- Fed the hungry
- Loved the poor
- Was a brown-skinned, middle-eastern, undocumented immigrant
- Was outraged at systemic injustice
- Elevated women
- Defied the patriarchy
- Eschewed religious power dynamics
- Gave healthcare to those who couldn't afford it
... be like Jesus.
A) While some are true, some of those are a s-t-r-e-t-c-h of gospel narratives
B) Some are DESCRIPTIVE, not PRESCRIPTIVE
C) You can also make a (much less popular) list like this from the gospels...
Jesus...
- Fought for a traditional definition of marriage
- Opposed sex outside heterosexual marriage
- Loved his country
- Defied cultural elites
- Chose 12 *men* to lead the church
- Affirmed gender is defined by biology
- Fought for the infallibility of the Bible
- Said people who didn't believe in him didn't know God
- Was part of a traditional family
- His followers approved the righteousness of military service
... be like Jesus.
Everybody wants to pick and choose aspects of Jesus to make him the mascot of their personal cause. But...
1) Jesus is a Lord, not a mascot. Jesus does not submit himself to our causes. Our causes must submit themselves to Jesus.
2) This is exactly what the 10 commandments forbid in "taking the Lord's name in vain." To put God's name on your flawed cause = to "take the Lord's name in vain."
"For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed... you put up with it readily enough."
–– 2 Corinthians 11v4
Human reasoning, how great in many respects but equally untrustworthy. It is amazing how many ‘clever minded people’ clash in their opinions. Theories are only that and can easily lead to error, castles in the air leading to darkness
(Watchman Nee)
Very thought provoking

2 million boys are growing up in fatherless homes. On the blog today Richard Wilson shares the story of Chapter2, a Christian charity matching mentors with boys lacking positive male role models. Find out more here: https://t.co/muzY4dRH8f
Thursday night and our church opens its doors to the community for a weekly warm meal and space to be. One lady, been through real heartbreak, really looking to God in her darkest time. Another guy, an addict, opening up and toying with coming to church more. Church being church!
Abraham ‘faced the facts’. He faced up to the to the fact that in his situation he was completely unable to do anything! He was unable to change his circumstances. What does he do? He looked up, praised God! It was there his situation changed, that’s when faith grew!
Genesis shows us what happens when God is taken out of the picture. Romans 1 reaffirms this in graphic detail! Be careful about taking God out of your life!
“He sent me to heal the heartbroken”
