@richardintheuk @LibDems4ER If you look at the most important metric of all which is the amount of people who vote for each party all elections since WW2 should have led to a minority government. I despised them but at least the tory/lib dem coalition represented almost 60% of the vote between them

@richardintheuk @LibDems4ER If PR is the problem then why does Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Ireland,Luxembourg etc manage to form governments that last and are effective election after election, a minority government needn't be voted down if enshrined in law that it is a default only used as needed

@richardintheuk @LibDems4ER It's not due to PR it's due to Belgian parliamentarians being unwilling to work with others, we could write it into British law that if a proportionally representative parliament can't decide on a government within a set period then the largest Party form a minority government

@richardintheuk @LibDems4ER No, we could have multi member constituencies or have a top up system in parliament to give parties the % of seats that reflects their vote share, there are always ways to maintain that connection,I don't believe that PR is a panacea but I do believe it vastly better than FPTP

@richardintheuk @LibDems4ER Well I'm an advocate for it and I would welcome a public vote , I consider it a major failure that it wasn't in the labour manifesto despite it receiving a majority backing at conference before the GE, PR would make a GE fully national instead of being 650 regional elections

@richardintheuk @LibDems4ER There has never been a vote on PR the 2011 vote was between AV and FPTP both of which give us a parliament which looks nothing like the vote, also the electorate has changed in 15 years with lots of deaths and children growing up, PR will come its just a matter of time

@lesthecroc The main reason is fairness and ensuring that every vote counts, no government either left or right is ever representative of the country as a whole so PR giving a parliament that does is. minority or coalition government is no worse than one with a false majority due to FPTP

Planning applications so we don't have unnecessarily ugly or unsafe buildings. Social care. Management of schools and colleges etc. The list goes on

@anyotherleader1 The UK moving to PR is top of my political wishlist but Starmer can't do it this term as it wasn't in the manifesto, and I doubt a referendum would work to change it as too many people in this country believe we vote for a government not a parliament
