@ElliottVerney@Mag1cH0ur I know your Dad assaulted Walker on live TV because he had the nerve to call The Devils awful! 😆 I pray to God that footage turns up one day! 😃
@MargBarCinema According to Paul Weiland, Billy Crystal was basically shadow directing much of City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly's Gold. It made for a very awkward set, Crystal was producer and co-writer and wanted to be director but contractual obligations prevented that.
Well, that was an amusing dream I just had. Netflix asked @EricIdle to do a 4 film biopic on The Rutles, to compete with Sam Mendes' 4 films about The Beatles, plus each film was going to cost $200 million. I was disappointed when I woke up, I'd like to see those.
To keep The Naked Gun (1988) funny, director David Zucker insisted the actors never wink at the jokes or play anything for comedy.
The more seriously Leslie Nielsen treated the insanity around him, the harder the movie landed.
@kalasevsky Peter Hunt and his cinematographer Michael Reed took inspiration from the weepies made in the 1950's by Douglas Sirk like Magnificent Obsession (1954), All That Heaven Allows (1955) and Imitation of Life (1959).
@lewstringer I worked in the Post Office in WHSmith from 2014 until 2020. During that time, in the branches I worked in and visited, WHSmith have struggled badly. They tried to save money by the downright Shakespearean method of tearing off strips of metaphorical flesh to stay afloat.
Robert Zemeckis, he had the Midas touch from 1985 until 2000.
Then he discovered motion capture. He tried to build a motion capture empire, and it collapsed. He went back to live action films with his tails between his legs, and he hasn't been able to catch a break since.
@R3TRO8OY The ITC let them off, GMTV however didn't, from Jan 1995 they went to Reuters for the Northern Ireland regional news opt outs as punishment for Ulster having the nerve for doing that. This punishment lasted until January 2013, by which time GMTV had regenerated into Daybreak. 2/2
@R3TRO8OY This sort of intrusion would later come back to bite Ulster. They opted out of GMTV in October 1994 to cover a loyalist ceasefire, both GMTV and the ITC were enraged but Ulster pointed to a bit of legislation in NI law that pointed out that they were well within their rights. 1/2
@DrOho@SpyHards Tom Mankiewicz' early drafts were closer to Fleming's book, where Bond infiltrates Scaramanga's criminal empire, that feels like a prototype Licence To Kill. Mankiewicz quit after clashing with Guy Hamilton, Richard Maibaum added the Solex plot which felt clumsily shoehorned in.
@DrOho@SpyHards When the makers started the script, it was closer to the book. However, the book was set in Jamaica which they'd just used on Live and Let Die, and not wanting to go back to the same place twice in a row, they'd looked at Iran, Lebanon and Cambodia, which all became no-go areas.
I'll tell you who's annoying me at the minute. Susanna Reid, she seems to have a psychotic obsession at the minute with wanting Starmer to be sacked. WILL YOU CHANGE THE FUCKING RECORD!? 😡😡😡 There's more to life than fucking politics. Oh and you should have gone to Specsavers!
This is going to sound like a backhanded compliment, but Paul McCartney's new song with Ringo is nice, but with the wistful lyrics, I'm instantly reminded of Doubleback Alley by The Rutles. https://t.co/40MKsKuHTK

@clockwork_wb Great work! You've made it worth the wait!
Now, I DARE you to do the same with Lisztomania (1975), parts of that make The Devils look tame by comparison! 😳😆
