@ConfedMatthew Shame on Barclays! Not surprised though. When my dad passed away my 90 yr old Mum had to arrange an appointment to sort out their account. The only appointment they could offer was in Exeter. Mum lived in Bedford!

@MichaelRosenYes Hope you’re coping. The strategies you’re using work. I had same symptoms in 2003. Could be viral labyrinthitis, Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) or Ménière’s disease. Turned out to be the latter but yours sounds like BPPV. Brain learns to cope if you keep moving. 🤞

@roolincharge @DavidNautilus1 Not therapy. Kids not empty vessels into which skills & knowledge are poured. Self esteem, self belief necessary 1st. For most children these are already there but when not you have to instil them 1st for children to see the reason, purpose & need for acquiring skills & knowledge

@roolincharge @DavidNautilus1 Sometimes teaching is about raising self-esteem & self confidence. When a child has spent most of his life in trouble & told he’s crap forcing him to write just to prove you’re a “rigorous” teacher is the last thing he needs. Give him the tools to make him want to write.

@minibudgetday @SoVeryBritish On the A43 nr Silverstone I caught up to a guy in old MGA with roof down. His speed was erratic 50-60mph so I pulled out to pass he shook his head at me as we passed a speed camera at 60ish & pointed at it repeatedly.
a) Camera hasn’t worked for yrs
b) Speed limit was 70!

@helenjmhill @darynsimon Yes & no. Yes, child development & stages of transition (as per Plowden Report) The “no’s” are practical. Pupils have only 18 mnths in Mid Sch b4 KS2 SATS & same in Upper b4 KS3. (Get rid of SATs?) Also many Mid Schs run like mini 2ndaries with moving classrooms & heavy homework.

@darynsimon And it was the latter arrangement that was most valuable as most of the problems were social rather than educational. Fear of getting lost, of not knowing your way around and fear of being bullied were always at the top of the list.

@darynsimon Pre academisation our pupils had a day/week for 3 weeks in their “new” school. Sec. teachers came to us for 3 days teaching their “new” pupils in familiar surroundings. After transition we “old” HT’s would spend 2/3 lunchtimes just chatting with our ex pupils in their new school

@RevRichardColes @policecommander I retired as head teacher 15 years ago & still dream that I’ve voluntarily gone back to help due to teacher shortages. I get called to the office to take urgent phone calls. (Why me? Where’s the real HT?) 3 hours later I remember I left the class on their own all this time!

@teachwellall I strongly suspect that the VAST majority of schools will offer sensible variations to uniform policy in extreme weather conditions. What you’ll get on here are those rare exceptions which, unfortunately, make it seem that this stupidity is widespread, which, of course it isn’t.

@garonnevik I often told my pupils stories about one of my school pals when we were 12. He was a bit of a scallywag & always in trouble Nothing nasty, climbing on the toilet block, stuff like that. The kids loved it & even though they’re now grown up still ask me about him if we meet.

@RevRichardColes Je Reviens was my wife’s favourite back in the 1980’s. But as she was a very attractive late 30’s she was hardly of “riper years”. On the other hand her mother, who would have been in her 60’s, had a large collection of Yardley perfumes & toiletries including Lily of the Valley.

@GP_Spink @MartinSLewis Hear hear! It’s the sanity and clarity that Martin brings to a complex area of life. It makes you feel better just listen to him breaking things down for the rest of us. (And he’s saved me £100’s - possibly £1000’s - over the years.)
