@low_tex @BDSixsmith I think I’ve come to accept over the past few years that wokeness is deeply American, that it comes out of many of the worst traditions and tendencies in this country, and that it all goes back to the fucking Puritans.
@low_tex @BDSixsmith The Quakers make good oatmeal and have interesting taste in hats, but the Puritans are absolutely not cool. I mean, if coolness means anything at all the Puritans are not cool.
@SilverVVulpes@SkepticalAlpaca One thing I don’t understand is how incredibly polygenic traits can skip a generation. I have personality traits (which I assume must be highly polygenic) that my grandparents had but that I don't think my parents inherited.
@conorduffy_7@IronEconomist There’s a real puritanical streak that runs deep in American history and American thought. It’s a big part of the reason wokeness has taken off here in a big way.
@SkepticalAlpaca I’m fairly ignorant on the whole subject. I think it’s true though that most of the fundamental, high risk research in this area is done by the gov. I imagine socialists think the gov could do the part that the private sector does as well. What would you say to them?
