open borders solves this (employers can no longer suppress the wages of foreign born employees sufficiently that they end up bang for buck a better deal than more skilled native employees, because foreign employees would have exactly the same security of tenure and job mobility)
I’m not even offended on my own behalf. I get to do the work I want to do, and spite is a huge motivator for me. I am fine relative to where I was when I was younger.
My brother has been hacking games and doing things I don’t understand (his thing is graphics, shaders, C - I am a JS/TS/Python script kiddie) and who exactly do you think is going to call him back from rural Illinois for his FIRST job? He’s more talented than half the people laid off from FAANG recently.
So, we both got to be 20 and have no way to even get our first job or internship in the industry because there is an infinite supply of cheap foreign labor, where Paul got to go to university and get doors opened for him, in an era where you could get a first job by simply “being good at computers,” and now he gets to dictate to kids like I used to be and my brother is and friends I have are today who DO have degrees, that they are just such innate failures that they should never even receive an opportunity to actually fail.
Meanwhile again, if we’re in India, we just grind some LC and we have a shot at not only a first job but potentially even a sponsorship to go to an entirely new country! Wow!
And the amount of this they say there should be, is INFINITY. Infinity of it. Nothing for you or your kids or your nephews. You may never ask where the line is.
@djmicrobeads if i wanted to live somewhere i was confident open borders wouldn’t change that much i’d simply move far enough north that only people temperamentally like me would be willing to live there
this is a purely self inflicted problem, created by xenophobia (we can’t grant h1b’s permanent residency!) and now being used to reinforce xenophobia (damn h1bs taking all our jobs cause they’ll work for pennies!)
i’m against open borders for other reasons but you can do a small scale open borders style intervention here by e.g. simply granting every h1b permanent residency on h1b granting if you want
have to conclude based on ireland and finland here that this guy thinks rich is when you have nordic design
ireland is per capita higher income than finland, the UK and germany
