We are students from the University of Toronto against vaccine mandates for the 2022-23 academic year. We must allow student choice: 🔎 UDHR Article 26. DMs=👍.
Please write MPP Jill Dunlop a personal letter, from your U Toronto email address, if possible. Appeal to their humanity. Do not bully, do not express anger or aggression -- just explain that you want the normal student experience back. We all need to stand together in this.
Ok Canada Twitter.
Ontario university students are facing mandatory Covid boosters and mask wearing. Please contact @JillDunlop1, Minister of Universities and Colleges, and insist she end the mandates. Please retweet. #NoVaccineMandates#WesternU#onpoli https://t.co/p10pQCEBdp
Flyers are popping up all around the Waterloo area. On Saturday February 4th at 1pm, students will be protesting the University of Waterloo‘s (@UWaterloo ) ongoing mask mandate. Students want choice. #SayNoToMandates
3) Vaccine mandates are not proportionate public policy.
The benefits are unlikely to outweigh the harms by any significant degree to justify liberty restrictions.
Current vaccines do not durably stop transmission.

2) Our analysis (see above) shows the alarming possibility that mandates may result in a net expected harm to young people. This violates the 'do no harm principle.' 8/13
Our estimates assume NO ONE has been infected w Covid. So: real-world benefits likely to be less favourable.
📢Read our new paper:
Analysis suggests Covid-19 boosters likely to cause a net clinical harm to young adults(18-29 yr), where total severe adverse events (SAEs) will outweigh Covid hospitalizations averted
Booster mandates are unethical because:1/13🧵

@Cricrifi@students4agency@csont_ca@S_A_M_CDN 👏👏👏 Bravo Kendra. Never forget your place in history as helping to defeat these mandates. You make us proud to be Canadian. Thank you!! 💙💙📘
Reminder that students who did not follow the mandate policy were considered threats to community safety by @WesternU and affiliates. Up until yesterday students were receiving the following:
@DrJuliePonesse@Western Western, you did the right thing by revoking the vaccination policy. However, I will NOT forgive or FORGET what you’ve imposed on students!
.@western did this as quietly as possible with no public apology, no accountability, and no commitment to address the harms of those they hurt. There should be no forgiveness until there is acknowledgment and even then…

Imagine being a @WesternU student, with all the normal stresses of academic life, & then the added stress of knowing that if you don’t take a booster in January 2023, you’re entire social and academic life will get cut off?
C19 mandates are a grave threat to students’ well being
@ah70mtl This is true of our campus as well. Majority of faculty are even done with the masks, including in the social sciences departments. Maybe up to ~30% of staff/faculty are masking, but they're generally elderly or have comorbidities (overweight, health conditions, etc.).
We told you: the slow creep is real. First Western, then Wilfrid Laurier, then Waterloo, and now York. #Resist#EnoughIsEnough
Pretty soon we'll have lockdowns and remote learning again. If you don't like online delivery of courses, now is the time to make your voice heard.
Effective immediately, in alignment with Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health’s guidance, York is calling on the community to resume masking in all indoor settings. We will continue to monitor public health guidelines: https://t.co/VijLl36iac | #YUBetterTogether
@Kam_Bach@fordnation We’ve compiled some recommendations from our Western students as we encourage more to do the same: paper bag, painted on mask, beauty sheet mask, coffee filter, and a printed statement of the university’s equality statement! #EnoughlsEnough
@FilomenaTassi@WesternU@FedDevOntario Wait. I’m so confused. I thought western mandates masks? Oh wait. Young people have to suffocate but the big bosses can breathe freely? Hypocrites.
@toddmodem@Kam_Bach @JAndrewKent It *does* say face covering over nose, chin, and mouth. So technically you could wear a pair of undies, or a Halloween mask if you wanted. Most people with a background in law / sociolegal studies understand this. Law is only as good as it's codified. 😁
The simple fact that we are forced to wear these masks goes to show the direction that Wilfrid Laurier, and institutions with similar measures are headed in.
We aren’t allowed to think or debate, we can only comply…
These mandates need to end.
