The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: sadaqah jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased).” (Muslim)

Allah SWT did not create us except to worship him, but here we are told that mankind vies for worldly goods which distracts us from Allah. And it isn’t until we are placed in our graves will we realise we had been distracted.

The wealth that we hoarded, time we wasted, and the worldly status we wanted to attain will all cease, but by the time we realise, it will be too late as our deeds will have come to an end.

Can you imagine the mountains, the immovable giant landforms that pin down the Earth, reduced to wool? What happened to their strength and their enormity?
On the final Day, even such a structure will not be able to withstand destruction

- glorifying Him. Allah mentions in Surah Al-Isra, verse 44: 'The seven heavens and the earth and everyone in them glorify Him. There is not a single thing that does not celebrate His praise, though you do not understand their praise: He is most forbearing, most forgiving.'

As the scene is set for the Day of Judgement in Surah Al-Inshiqaq; the sky is ripped apart, and the Earth is levelled out, Allah says that the sky and Earth will do so obeying the command of Allah. The Sky and the Earth, as well as everything in them, is in submission to Allah, -

- despite the warnings we have heard and signs that have preceded it.

The Prophet ﷺ said “and the Hour will be established when a person has raised a morsel (of food) to his mouth but will not be able to eat it.” (Bukhari).

‘When man cries, ‘what is happening to it?’’ (99:3)

Scholars interpret this ayah to mean that either only the disbelievers who denied the Final Day will cry out, or it will be all of mankind.
Regardless, this ayah reflects how suddenly the Day of Judgement will come upon us, -

- Then, Allah will lift the veil and nothing they are given will be more beloved to them than looking at their Lord Almighty.”

To gaze upon our Lord will be the best reward. May Allah make us from amongst those who are granted it.

“Their reward with their Lord will be Gardens of Eternity, under which rivers flow, to stay there for ever and ever. Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him. This is ˹only�� for those in awe of their Lord.”

It has been narrated in Sahih Muslim: “When the people of Paradise enter it, Allah Almighty will say: Would you like anything more? They will say: Have You not brightened our faces? Have You not admitted us into Paradise and saved us from Hellfire? -

Allah begins Surah Al-Balad by swearing by the city of Makkah; an important, prestigious and honoured place.
