There's some confusion as regards comparisons of military spending since the difference between nominal GDP and GDP as purchasing power parities is important. Here's a rough method. I start with finding the ratio between nominal and PPP:

@DrHelenFry My granduncle served on the HNoMS Stord, part of a RN destroyer squadron. He participated in the battle of the North Cape where the battlecruiser Scharnhorst was sunk. They say he only talked about it when drunk.

@maxthyssen @martinvars "Viking" was not an ethnicity, rather an activity or an occupation. The ships were also used for defence. The coast was divided into levy districts obliged to provide a fully manned ship if enemies attacked. If so beacons were lit on the mountains to signal mobilisation.

@adahrenberg @SvenneAndersson Norge var i union med Danmark fra 1380 til 1814, så de fleste av disse krigene var mellom Sverige og Danmark-Norge. Det unike med Norden er at vi har klart å legge alt dette bak oss.

@Alex63364314 @UriksFredrik Bare delvis riktig. USA sitt budsjett dekker hva landet gjør over hele kloden. Inkludert operasjonene i Midt-Østen og et militært nærvær i Asia som har vært mye større en tilsvarende i Europa de siste tiårene. Men det er også sant at nesten alle europeerne har brukt alt for lite.

@rospigge60559 Previously NATO only needed to do sea denial, now the alliance needs more or less permanent sea control. That is much harder.
