Today I signed the Energy Cooperation Agreement with my Botswana counterpart, Hon. Bogolo Kenewendo. We are looking to bolster our joint efforts to build energy security, expand our interconnectors and cooperate in the research and innovation fields.
When the sun shines, rooftop solar adds power to the grid. ☀️
When clouds roll in and PV drops, Eskom steps up to keep supply steady. ☁️❄️
Yesterday’s evening peak demand increased nearly 2000MW above forecast, yet the Eskom system held firm.
It’s not competition, it’s partnership. Together, we keep South Africa warm and the lights on. 💡🇿🇦

“Let all of us who live say that while we live Oliver Tambo will not die. May he, for his part, rest in peace. Go well, my brother and farewell, dear friend.”
- President Nelson Mandela (1993)
On this, the 33rd anniversary of his passing, we remember the incredible legacy of #OliverTambo.
Northern Cape on the move...
Alongside Premier Oscar Mabuyane of the Eastern Cape and Minister of Electricity and Energy Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa we inaugurated the Envusa Energy's Koruson 2 project. This joint venture between Anglo American and EDF Power Solutions signifies a monumental investment of R15 billion, positioning Koruson 2 as the second largest electricity generator in South Africa and the SADC region after Eskom. It is distinguished as one of the country's largest private-sector renewable energy projects.
The initiative has yielded significant benefits, including over 2,000 jobs created and R73 million allocated to local SMMEs and socio-economic development programs. These efforts bolster local capacity and promise enduring opportunities. This investment contributes meaningfully to the Province's ambitious goal of reaching a R200 billion GDP and creating 60,000 new jobs by 2030.

Let’s not confuse asset ownership and systems operations. ERA is abundantly clear what the functions of an independent TSO must be, and there global experiences where the asset base sits outside the Systems operator.
Dominant incumbents resist competition. That is what @Eskom_SA is doing by holding onto transmission assets to which competing generators need access. These must be transferred out of Eskom to an independent TSO which also needs to expand the grid https://t.co/qB5Bcl0MU4
If Professor Eberhard is struggling to grasp some concepts, we point out that these details were clearly outlined in our presentation during the media briefing as per the below slide.
We remain committed to transparency and constructive dialogue with all stakeholders, including experts in the energy space.

“The conversation in the country is such that it's a binary discussion. I make the point you need all of the above, both coal and renewables must coexist with each other.”
