So many YouTube editors are sleeping on montages.

There's too much "this happened, then this happened"

and not enough "this is happening because this is happening because this is happening..."

There's more tension in the immediate. If you've got three scenes one after the other, can they all become one? What do the jumps back and forth between time suggest?

I only recall a few channels on the platform that even attempt this, and it's part of the reason I'm trying to base my whole style around it.

Start practising by stitching together 3-5 scenes, sources or settings and see what happens. You'll subconsciously find powerful links between tiny moments that only occur in editing.

When creators start really picking up on this, it'll take YouTube editing by storm. So be ready for that!
