@Indicfederr0d If you try to stop Annadatas' subsidies or try to tax them, they get on road, create ruckus & bulk vote against the govt. Taxpayers don't do that. They just share frustration on social media. The day taxpayers get on road for protest & bulk vote is when govt will start listening.

@DealsDhamaka Exactly! Companies like TCS hired & trained so many freshers when they knew zilch. Their alumni maybe very successful at global orgs now but many forget that their first company gave them the opportunity to start, but some people are so ungrateful.

@kumariika All struggles aside, would you agree that IT paid one of the best salary in India during that time (late 90s/early 2000s) considering purchasing power parity, inflation & real estate prices during the time. So one could easily save good money & live a decent life.

That Coolie movie clip reminded me of the socialist films of the ’70s–’80s that brainwashed Indians into believing that a gareeb man is good and a rich man is evil by default, and that the rich became rich by exploiting the poor..

The hero, a poor coolie, mechanic, aspirant, unemployed, criminal, etc. The heroine, rich, high-headed; her father, of course, evil. Her ego is shattered by the poor hero: “Hum gareeb hain to kya hua, memsaab, hamare paas dil hota hai.” The heroine falls for the hero, goes against her evil father, and lives in a basti, where all gareebs love and care for her.

So many movies, same narrative. The result: Even if you are earning through hard work and persistence, you are made to subtly feel guilty that you have money because some poor person was exploited.

Whereas the reality is that the poor are equally, if not more, capable of evil as any other socioeconomic group. Poverty is not a certificate of virtue, just as wealth is not proof of vice. This lazy, feel-good moral framing has infantilised public thinking for decades. Needs to stop.

@sahilbhadviya Exactly I was also in infosys around the same time. Along with AI, he also pushed for employee friendly policies like relaxation of dress code for certain days and liberal WFH policies. One could feel his push for transition within Infosys but unfortunately he was pushed out.
