Why did Katie have to die?
Where was the wisdom in the immigration and sanctuary policies that helped create the conditions surrounding her death?
Bad ideas sold as good ideas are dangerous.
Because ideas have consequences.
They become policies.
Policies shape institutions.
And eventually, those choices reach real people.
For me, that is no longer theoretical.

Katie was “separated” from us forever. She's in a grave.

She went to visit friends at the University of Illinois and never came home.

The man who killed her was a previously deported Guatemalan national who illegally reentered, used a Mexican national’s identity, had no meaningful vetting or health screening, obtained an Illinois driver’s license under an alias, used fraudulent auto insurance and a third-party scheme, and financed and registered his SUV in Illinois under that alias. And much more.

Then he drove nearly 80 mph into the vehicle Katie was riding in at a stop light.

But somehow, it’s “just a DUI.”

Any consideration for Katie?

Or is compassion selective, applied when it fits the narrative, while the Katie's of this nation are accepted as collateral damage?
Why is it ok to sacrifice Katie and others like her for ideology and loyalty to party?

How did we fall this far?
So disgusting, and there is no shame to these types of posts without providing the other side of the ledger. Katie🙏

When pedigree matters more than judgment, common sense, and the consequences of legislation, we shouldn’t be surprised when ordinary people pay the price.

I know that price firsthand.

There was nothing we could do, Katie. Decisions made far away by people who would never know you or me sealed our fate. They knew there would be trade-offs. They knew there would be consequences. But they never talked about them.

They only ever talked about one side of the ledger.
Those decisions came all the way home and changed our lives forever. And when they did, they turned their backs on us.

They still don’t talk about the other side of the ledger.
But you are there, Katie. You are the cost they never wanted to count.

You paid the ultimate price for decisions you had absolutely no part in making.

And now I have to live with the unbearable reality that I have to wait until the day God finally brings us back together.

Until then, I’ll carry you with me every day, baby girl.

That’s the side of the ledger they never want to acknowledge. Like children, they pretend policies only produce good things and never involve trade-offs.

That isn’t serious governing. It’s willful blindness, and people like Katie pay the price.

Katie is my horrific example.

I totally understand. My Katie loved the water and was always happiest in it. She was amazing.

Until an intoxicated Guatemalan national, using a Mexican national alias in Illinois, killed her on the streets of Urbana.

I’m sorry, but @AOC’s behavior during the June 12, 2025 Oversight Committee hearing on the serious nature and consequences of open borders and sanctuary jurisdictions was awful.

She is so blinded by ideology and loyalty to her party that there is no room for wisdom, humility, or prudence.

She operates from only one side of the ledger, never acknowledging the horrific trade-offs or the human consequences of the policies she defends.

And the media too often fawns over her rather than doing its job. They should be watchdogs and truth-tellers, not lapdogs helping enable this kind of dangerous governance.

Illinois is the worst-run state in the union, regardless of your decrees, proclamations, or political rhetoric.
