You know what bothers me about this?

Generation Alpha are children. They shouldn’t have to document potholes or demand a road or school. They should be enjoying their childhood.

While I am so humbled by these children and their loveliness in sticking up to hold the state accountable, I am also deeply cognizant of how adults in leadership roles have failed them. The failure is so acute that children have to point it out.

SAMDISH: Are there many schools here with only one teacher?

TEACHER 🧾: Yes. One teacher runs the whole school, and still government reports, surveys and duties keep coming.

SAMDISH: What kind of children study here?

TEACHER 💔: Most are from poor families. Parents leave for Patna, Allahabad or Chennai for labour. Many children live alone, cook alone and still come to school.

SAMDISH: What do teachers do when children stop coming?

TEACHER 🕯️: We send other children to call them. If they still do not come, we go ourselves to find them in fields or forests.

SAMDISH: So this is more than teaching?

TEACHER 🫡: Much more. The salary is low, but when a child from here becomes something, that happiness keeps us going.
