A poetic message from today’s tragic shooting… The Bite of Seattle turned Bite of Sorrow 😞
Hi Andrea, this is Ethan and we met at Belltown pizza on your way to the shooting and I wanted to share what I when through in lieu of an interview.
The bite of sorrow:
Pop…pop…rapid fire pop pop pop pop pop pop…
Boyfriend laughing “oh someone’s got some fireworks.”
Wave of people running our direction.
Something is wrong!!
I grab his hand and follow the crowd. I run, looking back to see if there are any more hit behind us.
The crowd keeps coming, close on our heels. Are we really in a mass shooting event…in Seattle?
I feel the adrenaline pump as I try and keep from tripping. I see a lady in a red shirt and blue jeans fall in front of me. I want to help but fortunately, she was scooped up by her friend before the heard of fevered footsteps over took her. I was so worried about her and happy she is safe.
That wasn’t the case for 2 people who lost their lives, and 5 others, including a 2 year old, who were shot. All of my thoughts and prayers go out to them and their loved ones! How many tears I have cried for them, not even knowing their names? I just can’t describe how sharp and hurtful those shots were now knowing that they destroyed so many lives. Every pop another multitude of people affected. You all are in the thoughts and prays of Seattle.
As the news came out, we learned that we were enjoying our lobster Mac n cheese at the location of the shooting 10 mins before it happened. If we decided to stay instead of walk off the deliciousness, this could have been a different outcome. The shooter was there as we indulged ourselves.
Did I see something off?
Was there something I should have been looking for?
How can you tell if someone is about to commit such an atrocity?
It is crazy to think that could happen in Seattle!! All afternoon, I was so happy walking around, seeing all of the families out and about. To think that all of those families have been impacted by this, just outrages me.
As my boyfriend asks, “Why are people trash?!?” Has humanity really come to this? What will it take for action to be taken?!?
After the adrenaline wore off, it was replaced by the tears of sorrow, fear, and dare I say hatred. To think that this happened on our streets, to have this fear thrusted upon us, and to have no power to control our safety. What has become of our society?
I don’t want to discredit the brave responders who were there on the scene within moments of this horrific event, but I’m more upset with the general cultural of compliance of this.
This event has awoken me to the fact that we do have to embrace the people we love who surround us!! We need to reach out to the people who seem to be in need. And have trust in one another when times are at the saddest point. All of my heart goes out to those affected by this tragedy and know that we are there for you.
With much love,
A neighbor who will alway hold you in my heart. 💚
🇨🇻 Cape Verde Player Steven Moreira on how he became a Muslim:
“I saw my friend praying every day and fasting in Ramadan. I started asking questions, then I tried it myself. After that, I became Muslim."
“I didn't grow up Muslim, so I was scared at first. I didn't know how my family would react."
"But when I told them, they said: 'You're a better person now.' Alhamdulillah.” ❤️🤲
