You may not fully grasp the impact of poverty, bad governance, and poor access to quality healthcare until you actually work in the Nigerian health system.

There was a baby delivered at home who came in with severe perinatal asphyxia. The child was desaturating rapidly, even while on oxygen, and urgently needed mechanical ventilation

In our state owned facility, we don’t have a single ventilator!!!

We referred the baby to a private hospital that had one.
When they arrived, the family was asked to make a ₦750,000 deposit. The father had only ₦1,000 in his acct.
They turned him away.

He eventually took his baby to church.

You can already imagine what has likely happened to that child by now
