@DavidAsh914778 @ArtemisConsort Crime was pretty bad in Western Europe circa 1000-1600 AD. But they executed a huge % of the population via harsh criminal law. By 1900 in the likes of the UK, the level of crime reported to Scotland Yard paints an almost unbelievably placid picture. Even better in Ireland.
