My salute to the Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar for his extraordinary bravery.
Despite being stabbed and seriously injured, he fought back, resisted, opened the cockpit door, and enabled passengers and crew to overpower the attacker — preventing a catastrophic mid-air disaster.
He saved the lives of 174 people, including Israeli citizens and other nationals.
I wish Captain Machchhar a speedy and full recovery.
He is a true hero.
#WATCH | Gaya, Bihar: Pind Daan and Shraddha rituals for Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray were performed at Gaya by his daughter-in-law Smita Thackeray.
She says, "Just as we remember our ancestors—and indeed, often forget many of them—the rituals performed today allowed us to remember all those ancestors and pray for the peace of their souls. We endeavoured to perform the worship and rituals for salvation in accordance with our traditional culture. Few people are fortunate enough to have the opportunity to visit Gaya..."
India’s remarkable GDP growth of 7.8% in Q1 of FY 2026-27 is a testament to the resilience, strength and collective resolve of 140 crore Indians.
Under the decisive and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi, the Indian economy continues to grow from strength to strength, despite global uncertainties, oil price shocks and persistent supply-chain challenges.
This robust growth reflects the strength of our fundamentals and the success of our reform-oriented policies. India is not merely navigating global headwinds; it is emerging stronger and more confident with every challenge.
The journey towards a Viksit Bharat continues with renewed momentum.
Real GDP growth: 7.8%
Nominal GDP growth: 10.3%
The Q1 FY27 numbers are strong, despite global headwinds. Wonderful start to FY27. The Indian growth momentum continues! 🇮🇳👍
India’s economy has once again demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience. Real GDP grew 7.8% in Q1 FY27, ahead of expectations and higher than the 6.9% recorded in Q1 last year. The expansion is broad-based: manufacturing grew 9.2% and the services sector 10%. Investment has also strengthened significantly, rising to 34.3% of GDP from 31.4% in Q1 last year.
These numbers emphatically put to rest fears that the Iran war shock and heightened global uncertainty would sharply weaken India’s growth momentum. On the contrary, they underline the depth of India’s macroeconomic resilience, strong domestic demand and capacity to absorb external shocks.
At a time when the global economy is facing geopolitical turbulence, trade fragmentation and uncertainty, India continues to stand out as an oasis of stability and growth. The message is clear: the Indian economy can withstand global shocks, sustain high growth and continue to invest for the future.
India remains the fastest-growing major economy in the world. Congrats @PMOIndia@narendramodi@nsitharaman@SmalhotraRBI
India’s exemplary GDP growth of 7.8% during Q1 of FY 2026-27 is a herculean feat.
The collective strength of our people ensured India delivered such growth despite oil price shocks and supply chain issues in the midst of global uncertainties.
Doomsayers were doomed and India bloomed…yet again!

Activist Sonam Wangchuk writes a letter to Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh
The letter reads, "Thank you for visiting me at the hospital last night and for your earnest appeal that I end my fast. During our discussion, you assured me that the Government would positively consider adequate compensation for the families of students who committed suicide following the examination paper leak, a meaningful discussion in Parliament to ensure accountability, including consideration of the resignation of the Hon'ble Education Minister...I respectfully request an unequivocal assurance from the Government that none of the young protesters will face any punitive or retaliatory legal action for participating in this movement. Their only "offence" has been to raise their voice for a fair and accountable education system. If such an assurance is given, I shall end my fast with faith that the Government has heard not only my appeal but also the aspirations of lakhs of young Indians. In the absence of such an assurance, I will be forced to continue my fast indefinitely. I also hope that there will be no further use of excessive police force to repress the movement..."
