Perhaps we've never prayed it like he suggests since the time of Latin, but is it the case that the cadence we are all so used to was at other times quite different?
Do we know much about differences in cadence or manner of praying the BCP services in the time before they could be recorded? I often wonder whether the rhythm of both corporate and priestly prayers that we take for granted was ever different?
Which is to say, 'O Lord *Holy*, Father almighty, everlasting God'. He calls for celebrants to unite in rebellion and restore the punctuation. It's a small change, but would be a very noticeable and even jarring shift in the only way I have ever heard the service prayed.
For many years the Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré in Quebec sold this postcard in their gift shop (maybe still available).
It wasn't until decades later that we realized that the man and woman kneeling are actually my Grandmother and Uncle, both deeply devoted to St. Anne.
@mjjhoskin@nic_lucc That all said - I do 100% agree that this is just psy-op propaganda from Big-Oikoumene to ease the transition for the inevitable merge with the UCC.
@nic_lucc@mjjhoskin Perhaps it's an intended reference, but it reminded me of the Calvin quote abt the church being found wherever the Word is preached & sacraments administered. I took it to be less apt congregationalism, and more about the >C<hurch's presence in every parish.
Very sad. There are many causes - such as high energy prices and Labour’s tax on jobs but there is something even bigger. In Tesco you can buy Chinese made plates which look unnerving like Denby - knock-offs effectively - at a fraction of the price.
We continue to delude ourselves that ‘free trade’ is fair trade. It isn’t and the long-term costs to our society of this wanton de-industrialisation is devastating.
@anglochog I was crushed, last time I was in London, when I made my way over there to get a glimpse only to find that it was in use by an orchestra and I wouldn't have time to properly see it.
Here on Prince Edward Island it is fairly common to see not only cars left unlocked in parking lots, but often in colder months unlocked and left running while the owners run into the store for something.
Blessed and grateful to be having Anglican-Twitter OG, @benjamindcrosby, celebrating and preaching in our Parish on Sunday - but sadly doing so in my absence! Get yourselves to Summerside this Sunday! Been a blessing to have him and @sarahjoykillam about the Parish this May.
