It would be hasty to brand the protests anti Hindutva. As of now Hindutva and its structures will outlast the BJP in power; assuming (a huge one) that the BJP is outvoted in 2029. Hindutva will continue as the dominant framework of Indian politics unless there’s social reform
At the aggregate level there is a long way ( read 2 generations ) before even OBCs catching up with UCs in socio economic terms.. group wise convergence is happening but not yet so..

not doing the BJP vs INC but 2006 was actually Mandal 2.0 . 27% reservatoin was intrduced in IITs , NITs, IISC, IIM
and ppl were brutally lathi charged, water cannoned. Tab insta nahi tha islie millenials ka emotional fakeness nahi tha.. people sucumbed to inhuries and died out there.
only party to pitch for EWS was BJP under Advani (proposal was rejected outirghtly by INC)
and only party who vehemently denied any kind of extension to reservation was ShivSena under balsaheb thackrey which is why i never am that much hard againt Uddhav,, who directly provded support for anti reservation movement
Abhijeet has been consistently graceful.
This tweet merits some factual corrections though.
The impression being painted is that the INC/INDIA escaped persecution while CJP didn’t.
RG, PGV, Com Brittas, Mahua Moitra, countless activists- many who were part of yesterday’s march have suffered assault.
Beaten up, dragged through the streets and more.
The CJP trio was not on the streets on July 20, not on the streets on the 10th (detained) 11th (not detained).
They weren’t out there yesterday (12th) to find out if there will be assault.
The critique against CJP is *not* that they aren’t the one true heroic org.
It is that they have been disorganized, reckless and ordinary protestors have had to pay a price for it.
Protestors who turned up after CJP gave a call.
The CJP keeps side tracking that criticism by saying don’t divide stay united.
The Bengal cadre of the BJP has faced discrimination, isolation, physical and economic ruin unflinchingly. Ballsy, true patriots. As a well wisher I pray they stay the course.
Together, we will make a better Bengal. And thus, a stronger, inclusive, prosperous India. Just how our ancestors envisaged.
the opposition comprises of probably a greater number of Dehatis, but they are very adept in hiding the lumpen proletariat behind the face of this anglicised class. There is an urgent need for more young, anglicised and articulate faces in the ruling party, backed by strong
Historically, left-wing student movements rarely lead to socialist dictatorships despite the presence of radical imagery like communist flags. Instead, these broad coalitions typically function as big tents driven by immediate grievances rather than blueprints for totalitarianism. Globally, student-led protests have far more frequently acted as catalysts for democratization and civil rights rather than authoritarianism. While radical unrest can occasionally provoke a public backlash that empowers right-wing strongmen, the protesters themselves are almost universally demanding more responsive governance. Ultimately, seeing leftist symbols in a crowd reflects anti-establishment rebellion rather than an attempt to recreate a Soviet-style regime.
Other side of faith followers are saying expending state capacity in SIR excercise and muzzling protestors , in a hugely capacity deficit country like india -- are actually belle epoche for india never seen before.. 🤡
Jean Drèze is a good person, with the sort of saintly persona highly attractive to a certain type of faith-follower. His research is, nevertheless, on somewhat secondary aspects of poverty reduction and human well-being compared to the overwhelming importance of ECONOMIC GROWTH. On the latter, see the linked, carefully documented papers and video by Lant Pritchett.
