जब वह सिर्फ 16 साल की थी, तब उसकी माँ के भाई—यानी उसके अपने मामा—जो 38 साल के थे, ने उससे शादी करने के लिए कहा। रेशमा ने साफ मना कर दिया। इसके बाद वह आदमी तेजाब लेकर आया और उसके चेहरे पर फेंक दिया। रेशमा ने अपने हाथों और शरीर से उसका मुकाबला किया और उसे अपना काम पूरा नहीं करने दिया।

ज़रा सोचिए, वह आदमी कौन था। कोई अनजान आदमी नहीं, न ही पड़ोस का कोई ऐसा लड़का जिसे उसने शादी के लिए मना किया था। वह उसका अपना मामा था—उसकी उम्र से दोगुने से भी ज्यादा उम्र का आदमी, जो उसके घर आता-जाता था और उसके परिवार के साथ बैठकर खाना खाता था।

रेशमा ने उसे शादी के लिए मना कर दिया। उसके माहौल में, जहाँ 16 साल की लड़कियों से यह उम्मीद भी नहीं की जाती कि वे अपनी शादी को लेकर अपनी राय रखें, वहाँ परिवार के एक बड़े आदमी को मना करना अपने आप में बहुत हिम्मत की बात थी।

उस आदमी ने तय कर लिया कि रेशमा को 'ना' कहने की सज़ा मिलेगी। और तेजाब का इस्तेमाल भी इसी मकसद से किया जाता है—महिला को मारने के लिए नहीं, बल्कि उसका चेहरा बिगाड़ देने के लिए, ताकि वह जिंदगी भर अपने चेहरे पर उस 'ना' की कीमत ढोती रहे।

लेकिन रेशमा न तो भागी और न ही डरकर जड़ हो गई। उसने अपने हमलावर का डटकर मुकाबला किया और उसे रोक दिया।

उसे बच्चों को दिए जाने वाले देश के सर्वोच्च राष्ट्रीय वीरता सम्मानों में से भारत पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया।

इसके बाद रेशमा ने दो ऐसे सवाल पूछे, जिनका जवाब पूरे देश को देना चाहिए।

पहला सवाल था—उसे तेजाब इतनी आसानी से मिला कैसे?
तेजाब की बिक्री पर नियम-कायदे हैं, फिर भी वह सस्ता और आसानी से दुकानों पर मिल जाता है।

दूसरा सवाल और भी सीधा था, लेकिन उसका जवाब देना शायद ज्यादा मुश्किल है।

उस आदमी ने उसके चेहरे पर सिर्फ इसलिए तेजाब डाल दिया क्योंकि रेशमा ने उसे शादी के लिए मना कर दिया था।

तो रेशमा ने पूछा—क्या आज भी किसी लड़की को किसी रिश्ते या शादी के लिए 'ना' कहने का अधिकार नहीं है?

इस सवाल का जवाब आज भी हमारे समाज को देना बाकी है।

In Andhra Pradesh, a family of four from Kakinada went to a bridge in Rajamahendravaram over the Godavari river.

Panchayat Raj Assistant Engineer Nookaraju, his wife Meena, their daughter Sowjanya, and Sowjanya’s 10-year-old son Reyansh reportedly jumped into the river.

The child Reyansh survived. He was rescued by fishermen. But Nookaraju, Meena, and Sowjanya died.

At first, the case appeared to be a devastating family suicide.

Then investigators found two suicide notes. One was written by Nookaraju, and the other was written by Sowjanya.

Both reportedly named the same person: Sheikh Sadiq Khan, a rifle-shooting coach.

Sowjanya in her suicide note accused Sadiq Khan of prolonged harassment, threats, blackmail, and financial extortion. She claimed that private photographs/videos were being used to threaten her.

Sowjanya alleged that Sadiq repeatedly pressured her to convert to Islam.

Sowjanya also accused Sadiq Khan of being responsible for the death of her husband, who had died earlier. She claimed that her husband had been given a poisonous substance and that his death had been made to look like a suicide.

And, Nookaraju in his suicide note said that after the death of his son-in-law, Sadiq Khan entered his widowed daughter's life by offering to help her. He then began threatening and harassing the family.

Sowjanya’s 10-year-old son Reyansh who survived, told the police that Sadiq began visiting their house frequently and that he would often physically assault his mother and demand gold and money from her.

After their deaths, Sadiq Khan reportedly went missing from Andhra Pradesh.

After a search spanning five states, Sadiq Khan was traced to Meerut, where he was arrested with assistance of the UP police.

Three lives were lost, and a 10-year-old boy was left behind to face a future without his mother, grandparents, or family. Justice must be served.

3-year-old Kia Seltos. ~50,199 km. Regularly serviced as per KIA’s recommendation. Now a major engine issue. This itself is shocking and unacceptable. What followed is even more concerning — Incheon Kia, Nettoor, Cochin, Kerala dismantled my engine without my prior consent and failed to provide transparent communication or proper customer support.

I consider this to be a serious act of deception and a clear breach of transparency.

Kia India — is this how a customer with a serious engine failure is expected to be treated? I demand immediate intervention, a clear explanation and accountability. @KiaInd

Here’s a brief summary of what happened: My 3-year-old, regularly serviced Kia Seltos HTX 1.5 Diesel AT, with around 50,199 km, developed a serious engine-related issue. The vehicle was taken to Incheon Kia, Nettoor, Cochin, Kerala for diagnosis on 3rd August 2026.
After inspection and escalation to KIA Technical Team, on 13th August 2026 the dealership reported engine compression leak and turbocharger-related abnormalities and requested my consent to dismantle the engine. However, they did not provide me with any clear information or explanation regarding what action would be taken after the engine was dismantled or what the next course of action would be. Since engine dismantling is a major intervention involving significant work on the vehicle, I requested that all the findings and the proposed course of action be properly documented and provided to me in writing before I gave my consent. “However, my legitimate request was dismissed by the Incheon Kia officials, especially DGM - Service and Service Manager in an extremely rude, dismissive and condescending manner, with no willingness to provide the transparency and documentation I had reasonably requested as a customer.”

Despite this, the engine was dismantled without my authorization.

Even more concerning, after the engine had already been dismantled on 17th August 2026, I was subsequently contacted by Service Manager and DGM - Service on 18th and 19th August 2026 respectively and asked to provide approval for engine dismantling without being informed that it had already been done. When I personally visited the dealership on 19th August 2026 to see the status of my vehicle, I was shocked and deeply distressed to discover that the engine had already been dismantled without my knowledge or consent.

Then onwards I repeatedly sought a written explanation, but was made to wait for several hours and faced unacceptable communication and lack of customer support. The Customer Relations team of Incheon KIA remained largely inactive and failed to provide any meaningful assistance.

Despite repeated requests, I have still not received clear and transparent answers to my specific concerns. A 3-year-old, regularly serviced Kia developing such a serious engine issue is itself deeply concerning; the way the matter has subsequently been handled by the dealership has further damaged my trust in the brand.

This has been an extremely disappointing and distressing experience with KIA car and Incheon Kia Nettoor, Cochin. I am seeking immediate intervention from Kia India, complete transparency, accountability and a fair resolution. @KiaInd @KIACustomerCare @IncheonKia @kiamotorindia

These have become some of the most ordinary sentences in Indian life. That ordinariness is the achievement. Successful infrastructure is not technology displayed as spectacle; it is technology absorbed into everyday life and trusted without a second thought.

Exactly ten years ago, UPI was rolled out. India did not merely introduce another way to pay, it began transforming the relationship between citizens, commerce and money.

As a Chartered Accountant, I tend to trust numbers more than adjectives. In FY 2016–17, UPI processed approximately 1.8 crore transactions worth about ₹0.07 lakh crore. By FY 2025–26, that had risen to 24,161 crore transactions worth ₹314 lakh crore.

In July 2026 alone, UPI processed 2,365 crore transactions worth ₹29.88 lakh crore: an average of approximately 76.3 crore transactions every day.

These figures tell us how far UPI has travelled.

UPI’s real achievement is that it made sophisticated financial infrastructure almost invisible. The same interoperable payments rail now serves a street vendor and a large retailer. A small entrepreneur receives money instantly. A family can transfer funds across the country in seconds. A student in a hostel can receive ₹500 from home before the phone call ends.

By June 2026, UPI had onboarded 55.49 crore users. The Government has also reported that it serves 6.5 crore merchants, while 741 banks were live on the platform by July. During FY 2025–26, UPI accounted for nearly 86% of India’s retail payment transactions by volume. An IMF Fintech Note describes it as the world’s largest retail fast payment system by volume.

Under Prime Minister @narendramodi Ji’s Digital India vision, India did not merely catch up with the digital revolution. We showed the world how technology could be built at population scale, made interoperable and delivered to the last mile.

#10YearsOfUPI is therefore not merely a celebration of an app. It is a celebration of public digital infrastructure, institutional trust and inclusion by design. 🇮🇳

🚨 Another Hindu family goes missing in Bangladesh!

One Hindu family after another is being targeted in Bangladesh. After the brutal murder of school teacher Ganapati Chakraborty and three members of his family in Rangpur, four members of another Hindu family are missing in Chandpur.

Four members of the family, including Pintu Das, the owner of SK Shilpalaya in Chandpur town, his wife and two sons, have been reported missing. Upma De, a close relative of Pintu Das and joint convener of the Chandpur District Hindu Buddhist Christian Students' Unity Council, confirmed the matter on Wednesday (August 26).

The other three missing are Pintu Das' wife Rimi, elder son Priyam and younger son Rupam Das.
