Ah yes, I see the Kylian Mbappé camp has mobilized in force to try and convince the world he dezerves, somehow, the Ballon d'Or.

I've seen quite a few posts today pointing to his status as top scorer in La Liga, the Champions League and the World Cup as decisive proof of his superiority...

If pure goal tallies were the sole metric, Harry Kane would sit well ahead of the conversation considering Harry Kane finished with more goals than Mbappé despite operating as a far more complete forward.

Reality is, a player whose primary and exclusive focus is scoring still managed fewer goals than Kane.

The numbers grow even more uncomfortable when defensive contribution is examined. Mbappé recorded the lowest defensive work rate in the entire La Liga season. Dead last. Every outfield player and every goalkeeper registered a higher figure.

Those pushing Mbappe are marketing copy dressed up as argument. Cherrypicking three scoring titles while ignoring that Kane outscored the supposed “best player in the world” exposes the emptiness of the Mbappé case.

Worse still is when you add in the defensive data. It's not a footnote. it is an indictment and the reason why Real Madrid have gone trophyless the last two seasons.

Ballon d’Or voters are being asked to reward a forward who treats defending as optional and still fails to outscore a player who does the dirty work. If this is the best the Mbappé loyalists can muster, it's not going to win him the award...
