Matt Valeo @Phenomaly came to me about a new poker site that him and some other folks are starting. While I haven't played much online for the past years, there's been a lot to be worried about from RTA cheating, to being able to see people's hole cards, to not having control of your funds, and other scandals.

When Matt shared his vision, I decided it was a positive one that I'd like to support gain traction in the poker community.

I've long been a crypto advocate, as many of you who follow me know. And while Phenom only accepting crypto (USDT only for now) will unfortunately limit some users from being able to play, there are many benefits. Firstly it allows the users to not have to trust the site as a counterparty with their funds. It also avoids all the normal problems with sites operating in the US re banking laws because guess what, crypto doesn't need banks to transact.

They also have a killer idea (that's been around for a bit but not everybody uses bc ??idk??) for p2p encrypted card shuffling so that seeing other player's cards is unhackable!

We need to have a chat. The time has come to take a long, hard look at the industry so many of us enjoy.

Every week it seems there's a new scandal. Whether it's cheating on a live stream. Cheating in a home game. A superuser on one site. Bots on another site. Funds frozen on another.

For too long this has been the norm. And we deal with it. But should we? Don't we all deserve a place to play where we don't have to constantly worry about being cheated, over-raked, or having our funds at risk? Isn't the industry capable of being better?

We think so. We think the players have had enough. We think the players not only deserve better, but can do better. That's why Phenom Poker will be the first poker site where the players are the owners. With an emphasis on player security, protection of funds, and a decentralized ownership model, we want to make Phenom the movement that finally puts the players in the driver's seat when it comes to the future of our industry.
