@earth_2 Oh, they could have also picked up some from the Tantive IV, but then why would they transfer them from the star destroyer to the Death Star? Leia had to be there because Tarkin wanted to use her and make a political point.
@earth_2 Did they? It was still basically the DS’s maiden voyage and I can’t remember any reference to other prisoners. They *could* have picked up some from the battle on Scarif, but I’m not sure.
@earth_2 I say it's a semi-critique because I do think there was probably a way to do that story in a way that felt less like a slap in the face for some people.
I mean I think metaphorically slapping the audience is 100% fine, but it is weird to do that in a mainline Star Wars movie. 😅
@earth_2 I have one semi-critique of TLJ: it doesn't do the usual Star Wars thing of making it impossible for the audience to miss the point. It demands the audience put ego aside and meet the movie where it is. Which I love, but of course capitalist/ego-driven online culture hates it.
I think another thing I did as a kid was force myself to read in the backseat of my parents' car and get past the feeling of carsickness. I'd think to myself over and over, "what you're seeing and what's happening are two different things."
No joke, the camera controls in Super Mario 64 probably rewired my brain as a kid—in a good way. In my drivers' ed class in high school, I realized the other kids in class were almost entirely relying on their visual perspective to tell them what was happening around them (1/
According to a 2014 study, playing Super Mario 64 DS regularly leads to subjects changing their perception of space, with people who play it being more likely to map objects in their surroundings in relation to each other instead of in relation to themselves.
Almost everyone messed up. One kid put the goggles on and literally ran sideways into a wall. I was the only one who was able to complete the course without knocking anything over, just because I knew to only take minor clues from my vision, and imagine the rest in 3D space.
