Book 14 : Caliban's War by James S.A. Corey

I am loving this series so far. Corey makes the physical world so tangible in his writing. Whether you're wandering creepy tunnels on the Jovian moon of Ganymede or sitting on a crash couch on the legendary spaceship The Rocinate; you feel like you're there.

The interstellar politics also feel real. Perhaps it's because the tension between the Inner Planets and Outer Planets feels less like fiction and more like a sage prediction.

My 2026 books : what I read, what I think about it.

Context : I started reading books at age 35 in 2019, right before the pandemic. I was a staunch anti-reader before. The last couple years I've averaged 20 books / yr. I like physical books, I try to read non-fiction in the morning, fiction in the evening (thanks mom for the advice)

Book 13: Leviathan Awakes by James A. Corey

This book is brilliant and fun. The (relatively) near future imagination of the relationship between Earthers, Martian and Belters feels so real. It's such a wonderful backdrop for a great story to unfold.

I had already watched the show, but Damn, this book is just fantastic.

Book 12: Metamorphosis & other stories by Franz Kafka

People tell me Metamorphosis is the star of this book but A Report To An Academy absolutely slayed me. This was my first exposure to Kafka and I felt like it was hit and miss. Loved some, absolutely missed on some.

Book 11: The Iliad by Homer

This is a "happy I read this" but rarely "I enjoy reading this". I wanted to read The Iliad and The Odyssey before The Odyssey movie came out but The Iliad just didn't captivate me enough to read aggressively.

Book 10: Antimemetics by Nadia Asparounova.

This is such a tricky topic. I kept feeling like it's my first day in the Antimemetics Division. I thought the author did a nice job making the point and giving context while the subject inherently resists capture and transference.

I read this after There Is No Antimemetics Division. TINAD is absolutely one of my favorite modern pieces. They aren't comparable, but I sure do like the exploration of the topic.

Book 9: Consolation by David Whyte. A friend lent me this book after a deep conversation about heart ache. The first essay, Alone, made me cry quite thoroughly. That was not the only essay that brought me to tears. This was a beautiful book that hit me hard at a very challenging time in my life.
