Then there’s the hospice nurse who had to handle my wife’s final moments. In the last hours of her life, I had the pulse oximeter on her finger. I couldn’t get a good reading on her right hand, so I used her left. It was hovering around 80, which isn’t great, but it was still there. I had turned the oxygen up to 100% because she was struggling to breathe and no one else seemed to be doing anything about it. I had finally calmed her down enough that she could rest.
I was on the phone with her cousin, who had just finished talking to her. While I was talking, I looked down at the oximeter and saw it had dropped to 50. I politely excused myself from the call because I could feel myself starting to lose it. In those few moments that I was distracted, she slipped away.
I was still holding her hand when I started hearing that gurgling sound. Moments later, the hospice nurse walked in. Instead of handling it gently, she was cold and clinical. When I asked her if that was the sound I had been warned about, she looked me in the eyes and said, “Yes, we call that the death rattle,” and then she smiled.
I still don’t understand that smile. Maybe it was a cultural disconnect — she was Filipino — but that cold delivery and the smile at the end still haunt me. I may not have been with my wife for very long. We were only together for four years total and married for just six months, but I loved her more than I’ve ever loved anyone. To have that moment handled so coldly and heartlessly by someone who was supposed to be there to help still hurts.
I know she wasn’t the standard for hospice care. I’ve known some truly wonderful hospice nurses who are compassionate and caring. This was just one person who seemed to be simply doing a job. This happened at the VA in Orlando. She passed just before midnight on November 17, 2023, but the death certificate lists November 18th because that’s when the doctor came in and officially pronounced her.

The fury culture is a very odd one. I ran into it in a game called Second life and I’ll just say OMG. I had a SIM and a fury came up to me with his pink thing out didn’t talk and kept running his thing into me so fortunate to me I had a nice powerful shotgun in game and shot him out of my SIM and it came back 2 more times and after being blown off the sim 3. Times they stopped. Not one time did they talk or text. So damn odd.

@Crazymoments01 Story isn’t solid, dialog weak, coherence between scenes all over the place. But consistency of characters isn’t bad. Their looks mostly the same but yea AI all the way. Bailed after he broke into the garage the scenes all over the place lost me.
