9 Muslims were lynched in 2024, per CSSS.

That’s a total of 75 Muslims lynched in the 11 years since India became a “Hindu fascism.” On an average, fewer than 7 annually.

Is that 7 too many? Absolutely, but that’s not the point. Do I condemn those lynchings? Also not the point.

Point is, in a country of over a billion Hindus, fewer than 7 Muslims have been lynched by Hindus.

And, by the way, this too is not all. Unless otherwise noted as in the cases of 2014 and 2020, these number do not necessarily represent the doings of Hindutva mobs alone. In 2020, for instance, CSSS reported 23 lynchings. Only 10 of those attributed to Hindus.

That too isn’t all. Not all mob victims are Muslims either. In 2018, for example, 14 Muslims were killed in mob incidents. A big number, sure. But not bigger than 23 Hindus in the same year.

Similarly, the 8 Muslims that died in 2019 pale next to 28 Hindus that died in the same year out of a total 68.

Yes in 2022, 4 Muslims died in mob lynchings. And so did 4 Hindus.

And all these numbers are from sources openly sympathetic and partial to the Muslim cause, every single one of them. At any rate, the NCRB does not publish lynching numbers as a separate category.

So where does that leave us?

That Muslims have been lynched in India.
As have non-Muslims (in fact in far larger numbers).

That Hindus have lynched in mobs.
As have Muslims.

In Bangladesh next-door, more than 1,400 non-Muslims (no points for guessing which community makes up the overwhelming majority of victims) have already fallen to Muslim mobs in the 16 months since Yunus took over. In fact, the number comes from the UN rights office as per an Associated Press report dated Feb 2024, so make it 6 months.

That’s more than 7 a day.

A DAY.

In a country with a little over 10% of our population.

Mudavath Sriram and Jyothibai worked as daily wagers in the Satya Sai district of Andhra.

Their only child, M. Murali Naik, had dreamt of joining the Army since he was a child. His parents did whatever they could, despite their hardships, to help him realise that dream. In 2022, he proudly joined the Indian Army.

Murali was grievously injured while bravely returning fire after his unit at the LoC came under heavy attack on 09 Feb. He succumbed to his injuries while being evacuated.

Just a few hours before his balidaan, he called his cousin. The firing was intense, but his voice carried only one worry, his parents. “It’s too heavy… I’m just thinking about Amma and Nanna,” he said. His cousin urged him to stay safe and assured him that if anything happened, the family would take care of his parents.

Try, just try, to imagine the pain of his mother and father right now. You cannot call yourself human if your heart doesn’t sink or your eyes don’t well up looking at their photo.

These humble, struggling parents gave this country their only child, their entire world. Do you think Murali had any personal hatred toward the Pakistani Army? Was he fighting for himself? No. He stood there, for you, for me, for all of us.

And yet, there are those spineless, ungrateful souls who say, “It’s between the Indian and Pakistani armies, people don’t spread hate,” and shamelessly plead with his Pakistani fans not to stop loving him.
