Across the UK, cuts to the fire service are putting communities at risk.
Today, FBU reps gathered in Oxford to express their solidarity with Oxfordshire firefighters, who will be the first to move towards industrial action, and to set out our nationwide fight against the cuts.
We are ready to take on these fights, ready to defend our members, and ready to win investment — not just resist decline.
🚨 The fire service is in crisis after years of underfunding.
Further cuts threaten services in Oxfordshire, Scotland, Dorset and Wiltshire, and Buckinghamshire.
FBU members have had enough with sham consultations while firefighter jobs are axed and safety is compromised.
Buckinghamshire fire service is already overstretched, having lost over a third of its firefighters since 2010.
Now the service are proposing to:
❌Remove 7 retained fire engines
❌Close 2 fire stations
These plans will worsen response times and put firefighter safety at risk.

Since 2010, firefighters have endured a real-terms pay cut of around 12%
Now, Whitehall proposes to raid public sector pensions to compensate for a decade of austerity.
Firefighters have already seen their pension terms worsen, forcing them to work until 60.

The FBU are proud to be white ribbon accredited. This allows us to implement an action plan to affect tangible culture change. White Ribbon empowers men to stand up against harmful attitudes and behaviours that can lead to harassment, abuse and discrimination. #16DaysOfActivism

Our ground-breaking firefighter health monitoring project started in Tyne and Wear with 15 firefighters.
Since then, hundreds have given blood samples across the UK, thanks to the @UCLan team.
Now we're back in Newcastle - and this time over 100 firefighters are taking part💪
On 1 November, firefighters from all over the country will descend on Westminster to take our message to politicians directly.
For a fire and rescue service fit for the future, we need an end to job cuts and real investment.
