If you’re going to read a piece of work written by a working-class person spilling out their painful existence within a class ridden society & all you can see is grammatical mistakes, restricted code language, use of verbs, then it is you who is not reading the piece correctly.
Saddest for me is that a Nigerian would likely not have gotten this publishing deal. Europeans get huge publishing deals to tell the nonfictional African story, constantly, as though there are no writers or journalists of African descent who can tell it.
Break the habit of viewing non-academic professions as a “Plan B.” For a lot of people, industry is their first choice rather than a lesser option. Instead, be open and diligent about learning new skills and applying them in more real-world settings.
