An iconic photograph shows a young Dolly Parton and her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, making playful, goofy faces together in the 1960s. Today, this charming image is part of a newly unearthed photo strip that was recently discovered in Carl's old military trunk and put on display at the Life of Many Colors Museum inside Nashville's SongTeller Hotel....
Dolly met Carl in Nashville in 1964, on her first day in the city. She was 18 and had come to pursue music. He spotted her near the Wishy Washy Laundromat, struck up a conversation, and two years later they quietly married in Ringgold, Georgia.
Her career would eventually make her one of the most recognizable women in America. Carl chose almost the opposite life, avoiding interviews, red carpets and the machinery of celebrity.
That is what makes this little strip of photographs so remarkable.
The images were recently revealed as part of Dolly’s Life of Many Colors museum in Nashville. According to Dolly’s niece Rebecca Seaver, the strip was discovered among Carl’s belongings in a trunk that had essentially become a family time capsule.
Dolly herself reportedly had not seen the photographs since they were taken.
They would remain married for nearly 59 years, until Carl’s death in 2025.
For a couple who spent decades protecting the private part of their marriage, these few tiny frames preserved exactly that: not Dolly Parton the icon and her famously elusive husband, but Dolly and Carl, young enough that almost everything was still ahead of them.

Throwing this out into there. Kerry is the mankiller. No idea how the transfer was made fron Zoe but that's how she was able to walk them and the ring right out of the #NakeyMakey meeting. Noah is seeking positions of power and #Manhunters are always behind the power. #Lanterns
I believe that a lot of the anger in the US population is rooted in these two charts. How and where this anger is channelled to determines the future of the nation. Different groups offer different solutions, different paths. What solution will win out in the long-run is still undecided.
