Lots of commentary about medicine that emphasizes burnout, school debt, administrative burden, and medicolegal risk. Those problems are real. I practice emergency medicine (a high burnout specialty) and I see them.

What receives less attention is what the profession still provides.

It offers stability. It pays well enough to support a family and build a comfortable life. And on the best days - and even on some of the worst - you help save lives or change the course of someone’s health.

That combination is rare! Few careers let you earn a living, stay needed, and matter in a room when it counts.

The work is demanding, but I would 100% choose it again.
