It’s the end of an era. My 95-year old Padma aunty has passed away with a serene smile on her face. Childless, widowed, and with just a Hindi teacher’s income. Yet, she has shown us how to live. Life was not too kind to her. A beautiful woman, she was married to my uncle, who had little formal education and never managed to hold on to a job. But Aunty was not one to surrender to circumstances. She taught herself Hindi, persevering until she had mastered the language well enough to teach it and earn her own living.
She was also the eldest daughter-in-law in a large joint family, and much of the burden of running the household fell upon her shoulders. I remember once talking to her and being astonished to discover how many members of the family she had nursed through serious illnesses, including typhoid and dengue. She spoke of these things so matter-of-factly, as though caring for the sick, feeding the family and shouldering other people's burdens were simply part of the natural rhythm of life. There was no self-pity, no tally of sacrifices made, no expectation of gratitude. If I had been in her place, I'd have been smashing things around me.
After my uncle passed away, she lived alone for decades, fiercely independent and remarkably self-sufficient. Even at 88, I remember seeing her walking to the shops to buy her own groceries. She cooked for herself and, whenever we visited, would invariably produce something delicious for us—sajjige, akki rotti or some other homemade treat. She belonged to an era when Atithi Devo Bhava was a way of life; a guest was regarded as a god, not a pain in the backside! At 90, she even made the effort to attend my book launch at the Institute of World Culture in Bengaluru. I could barely speak when I saw her in the audience.
What I found most marvelous is that despite her modest earnings, she lived sparsely and saved money to not just buy a house but to donate to educational causes and now finally, she even left money to get a decent Antyeshti (cremation) without burdening anyone! One of the beneficiaries of her daana was Bhagini Seva Samaja. It was a mystery to me that she could give so much when she looked like she had nothing. It’s the power of austerity that creates abundance. Last year, when my father sent me photos of her endowment to BSS Mysore, I was firstly, taken aback by the beautiful school premises and, secondly, the magnificent room built for children to play chess. Aunty’s name was engraved on a plate outside the room. It was inaugurated by Shri Vishvesha Tirtha of Pejavara Matha.
I have my own precious childhood memories of Aunty. During our holidays in Bengaluru, my father would drop me off at her house so she could help me with my Hindi holiday homework. I would secretly smile at her unmistakably South Indian pronunciation, but I also knew that she knew her subject thoroughly! The last time I visited her was during a difficult period when my father, recovering from a brain injury, was giving us all a hard time with his stubbornness and tantrums. I asked Aunty if she would say a few words to him on video. She readily agreed and, with the gentle authority of an elder, sweetly admonished him, asking him to cooperate with his caregivers and stop being so stubborn.
I feel blessed that my husband and daughter had the opportunity to know her, even if only a little. There is one image of her that I know will remain with me forever. Whenever we left her house, she’d stand at the balcony to see us off. We’d turn around and wave, and she would raise her hand in an Abhaya Mudra and her lips would move as if she was saying “Go forth without fear. Be happy. Be well. May life be good to you.”
Travel well, my dearest Aunty. May your onward journey be smooth. And if you choose to return to Earth, please find your way into our family once again.

For James Cameron’s Titanic (1997), the most insane angle isn’t the romance: it’s the fact that Cameron built a working replica of the doomed ocean liner, then engineered its destruction in real time.
Here is exactly how he pulled off one of cinema’s greatest achievements 🧵👇
1/6 Building a Studio From Scratch
No soundstage on Earth was big enough for Cameron’s vision.
In 1996, 20th Century Fox bought 40 acres of waterfront land in Rosarito, Mexico, to build Fox Baja Studios specifically for this single movie.
2/6 17 Million Gallons of Ocean
Crews excavated two massive water tanks:
A 17-million-gallon horizon tank built
against the Pacific Ocean for uninterrupted views.
A 5-million-gallon indoor tank to submerge luxury sets like the Grand Staircase.
3/6 An 85% Scale Titan
Using original blueprints from Harland & Wolff (the ship’s actual builders), they constructed a 775-foot-long ship replica.
It sat on hydraulic jacks that could tilt the ship up to a 60-degree angle to simulate the final sinking moments.
4/6 The Towering Crane
To film the sprawling ship, production installed a 200-foot-tall Akela crane on a custom track running along the set.
At the time, it was the largest crane camera platform in movie history.
5/6 The Mirrored Ship Illusion
To save money, they only built the starboard (right) side of the ship.
When filming the Southampton boarding scene, Cameron shot everything in reverse. Every sign, button, and luggage tag was mirrored, then flipped in post-production.
6/6 Real Water, One Take
The interior sets were built out of real solid oak and glass.
When 90,000 gallons of water rushed into the Grand Staircase, the force ripped the stairs directly off their steel foundations. There were no second takes.
Cameron didn’t just use CGI or tiny miniatures. He built an entire world, and then destroyed it, milliliter by milliliter, to bring history back to life.

Throw back to 2005 when Sonia kept out of power, began projecting Rahul.
The wikileaks post in 2014 referring to a US diplomatic cable in 2005 said quoting "family and party circles" Rahul has psychological issues and is unfit for office
It quotes Saeed Naqvi a very well known Journalist and a close friend of the Sonia Rahul family telling a US diplomatic
"Rahul Gandhi suffered from emotional or psychological personality problems severe enough to prevent him from functioning as Prime Minister"
Since when he entered his own party press conference and tore it's own to amend a law -- his behaviour has been abnormal to arrogant, understandable to unbelievable. He is mysterious in his appearance and disappearance. His abnormality is now peaking.
The wikileaks put out a big secret from within the the family's close circle as early as in 2005 pointing to his psychological deficits.

WikiLeaks' March 2014 post shared a 2005 US diplomatic cable alleging Rahul Gandhi suffered from emotional or psychological personality problems severe enough to prevent him from functioning as Prime Minister.
The cable cited a source close to the Gandhi family noting internal Congress skepticism, with the family reportedly preferring Priyanka Gandhi as more capable while Sonia positioned Rahul as heir apparent.
Released ahead of India's 2014 general elections, the post spotlighted Congress party dynastic challenges and leadership doubts in Uttar Pradesh politics.

Key excerpts from the March 3, 2005, US Embassy New Delhi cable (“RAHUL GANDHI: LACKLUSTER LEADER”): Scoop
The cable reports a conversation with “influential columnist and political insider Saeed Naqvi,” who described himself as a personal friend of Rajiv Gandhi and a well-wisher of the Gandhi family.
Naqvi said he was initially pleased when Sonia Gandhi projected Rahul as the heir apparent but had since lost faith.
He told the embassy officer that, among Congress insiders (including Sonia’s circle), it was “increasingly common knowledge that Rahul suffers from ‘personality problems’ of an emotional or psychological nature that are severe enough to prevent him from functioning as PM.” He added that Rahul had “failed as an MP” in the family stronghold of Amethi, was “causing more harm than good,” made only pro-forma appearances, and had “made no impression on the people of the state.”
Naqvi also said the Gandhi family had preferred Priyanka (seen as more intelligent and savvy), but Sonia (described as having protective “Italian mother” instincts) had chosen Rahul instead.
He concluded that Gandhi dynastic politics had “no future” because the family had run out of candidates with the necessary charisma; Indira was the last effective one, and Rahul was “far below even his father in political ability.”Scoop
The embassy’s own comment noted that Naqvi’s views aligned with other sources it had heard, though it was not ready to “write him off” given the positive media coverage around him at the time.
Who is Saeed Naqvi?
Saeed Naqvi (born 1940) is a long-time Indian journalist, foreign correspondent, television commentator, and author. He worked at The Statesman and later The Indian Express (including as Foreign Editor), produced foreign-affairs programs; has interviewed numerous world leaders (including Nelson Mandela, Fidel Castro, and others); has written columns for multiple Indian and international outlets and authored books such as Being the Other: The Muslim in India.
In the cable Naqvi is portrayed as a well-connected political insider with personal ties to the Gandhi family.

In 1914, a 51 year old Indian prof. with 27 years of teaching behind him was told to leave Germany at once. The man who told him sent him to Ernest Rutherford.
His name was Ruchi Ram Sahni, and he taught chemistry at Government College, Lahore.
He had gone to Germany with one question. Why did lead from different sources give different atomic weights? He suspected an impurity.
In Karlsruhe, Kasimir Fajans had just found the cause: Radium D, a radioactive form of lead.
Sahni nearly stepped back. He didn't know the radioactivity techniques, and he feared slowing Fajans down.
Fajans was impressed by his observations and persuaded him to work on it together.
Then war broke out in Europe, and Fajans told him to go to Rutherford's laboratory in Manchester.
The young Niels Bohr worked in that lab too. Sahni published two papers in the Philosophical Magazine, in 1915 and 1917: one on how alpha, beta and gamma rays act on photographic plates, and one on how alpha particles scatter in gases.
Both carry his name alone. Rutherford communicated them.
He carried his photographic plates home for further work. On the ship journey to India they were damaged. A promising research career in this area came to an abrupt end.
P.S. A "communicated" paper is one an established scientist submits to a journal on the author's behalf.

What a great woman.
Rarely we see such a woman leader in politics.
She was jailed by Indira under MISA during the emergency and kept in a cell along with criminals.
She was so respectable and graceful that the mighty Ramnath Goenka used to touch her feet.
She trusted me so much that she made me when I was just 36 the Executor of her Will.
When I was arrested by Rajiv Gandhi on a forged letter from where his downfall started, she was taking care of my terrified wife like a mother.
Ever grateful to that great and spotless woman leader

2) 3 crore Absent
3) 6.3 crore permanently shifted
4) 1 crore duplicate

But media should ask @RahulGandhi why he wants dead, missing & duplicate voters to vote?
What’s the deal Rahul?
