Today, I joined H.E. the Vice President, Jessica Alupo, Deputy PM Rt. Hon. @RebeccaKadagaUG , Hon. Henry Musasizi, Hon. @MercyLakiskis, the National Youth Council, and other stakeholders in a virtual commemoration of #InternationalYouthDay2026.

As Government, we reaffirm our commitment to creating opportunities that empower our Youth through education, skills development, employment, entrepreneurship, dignified and meaningful participation in national development.

To the young people of Uganda: you are not merely the leaders of tomorrow, you are driving Uganda's transformation today, and remain Uganda's greatest asset as we build a more inclusive and prosperous nation.

Today, we convened a virtual celebration of International Youth Day 2026 alongside H.E. @jessica_alupo , Vice President of the Republic of Uganda , @RebeccaKadagaUG the 1st Deputy Prime Minister, @Tumukunde_ the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development ,@henrymusasizi1 the Minister of Finance and Planning and Economic Development , National Youth Council Executives and other stakeholders.

The forum provided a meaningful platform for Government and young leaders to engage on critical youth development issues, celebrate the immense contribution of young people to Uganda’s progress, and strengthen pathways for their active civic and economic participation.

Young people are not merely leaders of tomorrow, they are key drivers of Uganda’s transformation today. 🇺🇬

I joined my colleagues members of Parliament in addressing @Parliament_Ug on International Youth Day 2026, under Uganda’s theme: “Empowering Young People for Inclusive Wealth Creation and Sustainable Development.”

I emphasised the need for collective action to eradicate poverty among young people, expand opportunities, equip them with relevant skills, and ensure they meaningfully participate in the global economy.

Earlier this morning, we joined H.E. the Vice President @jessica_alupo and other leaders in a virtual national celebration, reaffirming Government’s commitment to placing young people at the centre of Uganda’s transformation.

Wrapped up the day at the National Symposium on “Climate-Induced Youth Migration and the Urban Future of Uganda.” Organized at @Makerere

Climate change is no longer a distant environmental concern; it is a socio-economic force reshaping where our young people live, work and build their futures. As Barack Obama reminded us, “Climate change is no longer some far-off problem; it is happening here, it is happening now.” This reality calls for climate-responsive and sustainable urban planning.

To safeguard Uganda’s future, we must place young people at the centre of climate governance, sustainable urban development and policy-making. We may not always be able to build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.

By creating resilient livelihoods and opportunities within local communities, we can ensure that young people are not merely surviving climate-induced displacement, but becoming leaders of Uganda’s urban transformation. Our path forward must be youth-centred, inclusive and firmly action-oriented. 🌱🇺🇬
