I am deeply saddened by the tragic fire at the Mirpur RMG factory and chemical warehouse that claimed at least 16 lives. May Allah grant eternal peace to the departed souls, and may He bless the injured with a swift and full recovery.
Heartbreaking incidents like these repeat themselves, leaving behind grief and many questions. We must work to ensure workplace safety standards are implemented so that no more lives are lost due to negligence.
I call upon the authorities to take immediate, decisive action to ensure transparency in the investigation, hold those responsible to account.
My thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost loved ones, and with all those affected.
On this World Press Freedom Day, let us unite to champion the independence of the press and the protection of journalists who report on the truth, with ethical integrity.

Journalists serve as a vital pillar of democracy; their work must be protected and embraced, not attacked or censored. Yet in Bangladesh, we witnessed the systematic erosion of the press freedom under state-sponsored repression by the recently deposed authoritarian regime.
During those dark years, through unwavering courage and commitment, many Bangladeshi journalists shone a light on matters ranging from deep rooted corruption, horrific human rights violations, and socio-economic failures, all by the state. These brave journalists were found across the mainstream and social media, at home and abroad, remaining steadfast in their pursuit of the truth, fighting for a democratic Bangladesh and upholding fundamental values of expression.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP draws inspiration from a new brand of journalism that upholds the highest standards of ethics and integrity. We respect fearless and objective reporting, even when it may not align with our agenda. We stand firm in our belief that a free and independent media makes or breaks a democracy. Journalism with integrity and objectivity should serve the people above politics.
If we are to have a strong and sustainable democracy, journalistic integrity and freedom must be maintained. Let us set aside all differences, to build a Bangladesh where elected, accountable governments ensure the freedom of expression, human rights, and the rule of law for all, including that of the press.

#JasAthawal is a puppet mouthpiece for the fascist #awamileague government who calls brutal murderers his friends and continues to speak out and endorse the former prime minister of #Bangladesh who according to the #UN is a 'tyrant war criminal'.

Imagine your child stranded under the weight of concrete foundation blocks. Imagine being a rescue team member tasked with going under the rubble. Gaza's resilience will be admired for the rest of time.
The more we delay democratic elections taking place in Bangladesh, the more the broken systems instilled by Awami League for their own gains will be exacerbated. We cannot move forward in building a better Bangladesh when society wide issues in public healthcare, education system, difficulties faced by farmers, challenges for businesses, political biases in the judiciary and civil service exist.
Only an elected government, chosen by the people of Bangladesh through the exercising of their voting rights, can begin rebuilding the nation. The public's choice of representatives will be respected and the representatives in turn must serve the public. Both sides must be involved actively in governance so that Bangladesh can ensure equality, inclusivity, and development for all.
Yesterday, Dr Asif Nazrul, Adviser to the Interim Government of Bangladesh, faced targeted physical harassment from the Awami League activists at Geneva airport. This disrespectful behaviour on foreign soil has not only caused a stir, but also seen as an affront to both national dignity and the stature of public office.
Sheikh Hasina’s international conspiracies continue to complicate the political landscape in Bangladesh. Her supporters abroad are allegedly engaged in organised efforts to undermine democratic voices and stoke tension within the country. Awami League activists overseas have a historic record of assaulting Bangladeshi advocates and activities of democracy and human rights, perhaps as an extension of their autocratic rule and atrocities over the last 16 years, including human rights violations, erosion of freedom of expression and rule of law, and misappropriation of public resources. For many, the growing influence of these overseas Awami League affiliates are a cause for concern.
I condemn this disrespect and incivility against Dr Asif Nazrul as emblematic of the Awami League’s conspiracy to complicate our democratic transition and assault democratic norms. Scare tactics and threats from them will not be tolerated by the public in silence any longer. Pro-democracy advocates across the world are calling for foreign authorities to investigate their crimes and atrocities. In Bangladesh, public sentiment is gearing towards turning away from the individuals who have mistreated our country and its people, fuelling widespread appeal for stronger protection of democratic rights and the rule of law.
Thank you, @realDonaldTrump, for acknowledging the importance of protecting minorities wherever they are, regardless of their religion. However, fact-checking is essential to understand the real situation on the ground. Just today, the Sweden-based news organization @NetraNews published a fact-checking report that sheds light on what is being circulated by certain vested groups regarding Bangladesh. Read the report here- https://t.co/GKZVDuiACP Ensuring accurate information is key to effectively supporting those affected and fostering peace.
Diwali is a time to unite against misinformation as much as against real threats.
