It’s crazy that France first invaded half of Europe, suffered a total defeat at the hands of the Allies in 1815, and was still allowed to keep Alsace-Lorraine. In fact, France lost virtually no territory at that time. Just a few decades later, France was already invading Russia (Crimea, 1853), Mexico (1861), and finally Prussia (1870). But the Germans defeated the French together in 1871.

Exclusive: German authorities are planning to introduce warrantless mass surveillance of new media online. The proposed legislation would authorize German authorities to use AI to automatically monitor platforms such as X, YouTube, and Instagram and to impose sanctions for alleged violations of journalistic due diligence. The surveillance is intended to be “preventive”; to facilitate it, the platforms have to provide technical interfaces through which the authorities can access the data.
