It was a pleasure to present #urban forced displacement framework from our white paper at recent joint @WBG_Cities & @CitiesAlliance event #refugee#IDP
120 million people #forciblydisplaced. The escalation of #conflicts and the compounded crises highlight the urgent need to address the needs both “people and places” affected by forced displacement. Join us to hear more from @WBG_Cities, @CitiesAlliance@UNHABITAT and Mayors.
This latest blog highlights role of result based financing to address urban forced displacement challenges, that is increasingly becoming more urban (>50% #refugee and #IDP in #cities) and protracted (10 years avg.) with rising #conflicts @WBG_Cities @InstiglioInc#GPRBA#RBF
With rising #conflicts, forced displacement is an urgent agenda for #cities, that host >half of #117million forcibly #displaced people. Join us tomorrow to learn about role of result based financing to address urban forced displacement @WBG_Cities @InstiglioInc#GPRBA#RBF
Of the many crimes committed every day against civilians in Gaza, in Sudan, in Ukraine and unfortunately in many other places, killing mothers and their children is the one that wounds and denies humanity more than any other.
We think of this especially today, on #MothersDay.
My recently co-authored blog talk about how disproportionate percentage of 114 million forcibly displaced people around the world are women and children, with majority of them moving to cities #wbg_cities#gender#Refugee#IDPs#Gendergap
Recently i co-led a report on #Gender and #ForcedDisplacement in #Cities, which highlights that since most displaced persons (esp. #women) choose to remain in cities for prolonged time, interventions need to focus on how to sustainably integrate them into existing #urban fabric
People in Gaza are dying not only from bombs and bullets, but from lack of food & clean water, and hospitals without power & medicine.
This must stop.
I will not relent in my call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and the immediate & unconditional release of all hostages.
The Israeli bombing of the Jabalia refugee camp is horrific and unacceptable. Thousands, many children, are dead in Gaza and the numbers are likely to climb. It is past time for a ceasefire, so that humanitarian aid and relief can reach Palestinians trapped inside Gaza.
Hiroshima also provides a successful example of urban regeneration, striking a balance between development and community needs. https://t.co/GNuXM4EkkR via @worldbank
