@Burthier_ I don’t think folks calling for a provincial police force understand how poorly the BC Gov treats law enforcement. One just has to look at how they underfund the Sherriffs and Conservation Service.. not to mention freezing the funding for hundreds of provincial RCMP spots.
@GerFoy@LMDHallMonitor@joejoerighty The armchair quarterbacking from folks at least implying they are cops is sad… all in efforts to make the Mounties look bad. It doesn’t matter how much training folks have sometime shit hits the fan and bad things happen. The Sannich bank robbery is a good example.
@Gear316@LifeofPaddy@Anonymo91144782@ArcAnge48675971 @blueoil23 Steve, police officers (RCMP and Muni) do this all the time. Think about mental health cars that pair a police officer with an unarmed nurse. How is that any different?
@butcherboyz What I likely see happening is Serr will eventually bring SPS to be recognized as POJ. RCMP members won’t volunteer to work for them.. SPS applies to Farnworth for RCMP (prov) assistance to staff…. So Province will pay RCMP wages, and it’s exactly what he said RCMP couldn’t do
@blueoil23 Considering the SPS was supposed to be patrol focussed, with folks returning to road after stints in sections, one has to wonder why they are having so many issues getting members to work on the frontline… and nobody is too “specialized” for GD, they are cops.
@blueoil23 Rollie, lots of us have worked there and did not have the same experience as you. I enjoyed my time there. Sure, there were times when there were staffing struggles, but they were addresses relatively quickly.
@GregviiGreg @Leflynn1962 @DorrisSurrey@mikefarnworthbc@bcndp Locke did the same thing. Council voted to keep the RCMP, which Farnworth stated the city could do, requesting a plan for them to do so. While he didn’t agree with the plan, Mccallum and Locke had the same authority in regards to their choice as per S. 3 of the Police Act.
@GregviiGreg @Leflynn1962 @DorrisSurrey@mikefarnworthbc@bcndp Greg, based on your argument, Mccallum never had the authority to switch to the SPS. I believe the issue folks have is that the Gov repeatedly stated it was up to the city… now they are saying it’s not.
@GlobalBC This turned into a true multi-jurisdictional RCMP file, stretching across vast distances, with support from several RCMP teams, including Major Crimes, PDS, ERT and Air Services, and that Ladies and Gentlemen is why Surrey has been and would continue to be best served by the RCMP
@AdamPound7@primetimecrime@rexglacer Think about what you are saying. If an armed individual chooses to engage in a gunfight with a CO, don’t you think the law enforcement officer should be better armed. At that point, it’s not about playing fair, it’s about giving the public servant the best chance to survive.
