▪︎Did you know?
▪︎Painting the walls of your poultry house with hydrated lime may help to prevent diseases.
▪︎Hydrated lime acts as an alikaline disinfectant with a pH of around 12
▪︎Most disease causing microbes can not survive in this pH.
Thank you so much @RICA_Rwanda's leadership.
This visit highlights the support for student-led initiatives like ours, where we’re dedicated empowering communities with practical swine production skills.
We are proud of the SwinElite Farm project, initiated by a group of final-year RICA students. Recently, the Institute’s leadership visited the farm near campus, demonstrating their support for student-led initiatives.
This project offers valuable opportunities for local community members and fellow students to learn practical swine production skills, exemplifying RICA’s commitment to experiential learning and fostering an entrepreneurial spirit.

Why pig farming?
They can grow fast, require a small area to grow, are more profitable than other livestock farming, have a good quality of meat, their hair is also used for clothes making.
Not forgetting that their manure can be used as fertilizer on your farm.
When you have such farrowing crates on your farm, you reduce on the mortality rate of the piglets, improve hygiene for both the piglets and the sow and most importantly you are not worried of crushing piglets and they have a stable heat supply (piglets).
