Clinical Director, NHS England. Chief Social Worker and national lead for social care engagement . Non Executive Director @Socitm Views expressed are my own.
Would I want my mum's carers to be vaccinated? Of course. But worrying implications - if social care staff, why not NHS? And if NHS, why not hairdressers, beauticians, taxi drivers, sports coaches etc? Where is the limit to compulsion in a democracy?
@BASW_UK This article doesn't bear any relation to what I see on the ground. Social workers are often under, rather than over involved - not because they want to be, but because they and their employers are massively overstretched!

@jaxrafferty@vicrayner@NHSDigital Yes, we will make sure there is a broad public consultation involving these groups. It needs to be useful to the front line practitioners it's aimed at.
Agree that seeking consent should be a matter of course. Good practice guidance is also important, so @NHSDigital are working to produce a new NHS Confidentiality Code of Practice which will be inclusive of practitioners in social care.
Most people haven’t a clue what’s going on with their data. Not only should consent be on our minds, seeking it should be the starting point for information sharing. Good however to see health & social care in the same sentence - interoperability key #digitalethics@Swman62
@coolbeemer2@NHSDigital I acknowledge your point @coolbeemer2 - the irony is that @NHSDigital is doing much more work in social care now than when we were Health and Social Care Information Centre! It's not all in the name😉
@MattHancock Hello NHSX! Welcome @MattHancock announcement and @krfarrington comment re. social care. NHS challenges are broader than just the NHS - look forward to working with the new organisation to ensure digital improves the health and care of people across the system #NHSX4socialcare
@dez_holmes@nadhimzahawi@educationgovuk Just had a similar conversation with Colleagues #NCASC about adult social care - the consensus seems to be individual stories to illustrate needs and systemic problems, coupled with the data. After this, it’s about the government’s capacity to listen!
NCASC delegates finding out more about some fantastic social care digital innovation projects supported by local councils, the LGA and NHS Digital #NCASC18
