#Pakistan🇵🇰 The International Human Rights Foundation (IHRF) solemnly brings to the global community's attention a series of profoundly troubling developments in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the world's fifth most populous nation and a state of significant geopolitical stature, endowed with nuclear capabilities and historically intertwined in partnerships with the United States and the United Kingdom.
It has been credibly reported that the nation's military establishment, in collusion with non-state actors of considerable notoriety, has engaged in a systematic distortion of the democratic process, notably through the manipulation of electoral outcomes, extrajudicial executions, arbitrary arrests, forced disappearances, torture, excessive use of force, repression of peaceful protests, property theft, embezzlement, political and judicial persecution, filing of false charges, lawfare, mediafare, among other illegitimate means.
The most revered political figure in the country, former Prime Minister Mr. Imran Khan (@ImranKhanPTI), has been subjected to detention under charges that many international observers deem to be without substantive merit.
Compounding these grave concerns are credible allegations of egregious human rights violations, including the targeted abduction and extrajudicial termination of journalistic voices, the imposition of draconian restrictions on digital communication platforms, and the use of excessive force against nonviolent demonstrators.
Particularly alarming is the persecution faced by members and affiliates of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI, @PTIofficial), a political entity that enjoys considerable grassroots support. The IHRF implores the international community to recognize the severity of these actions, which not only undermine the principles of democracy and human rights but also pose a stark challenge to global peace and security. #IHRF #HumanRights #RuleOfLaw #Election2024 @soldierspeaks@ex_pess

#Pakistan🇵🇰 The International Human Rights Foundation (IHRF) expresses its categorical condemnation of the recent incidents of arbitrary arrests of elected representatives of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party in different parts of Pakistan. These arrests, based on trumped up charges following the legitimate exercise of the right to protest, are a flagrant violation of basic human rights principles. The rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and association are cornerstones of democratic societies and are enshrined in international human rights law. These rights are inalienable and universal, applicable at all times and in all places, without exception. Attempts to suppress these freedoms under any guise are not only unacceptable but a direct affront to the rule of law and democratic norms.
The IHRF also underlines the sanctity of the electoral process and the inviolable legitimacy of representatives duly elected through the ballot box. The arbitrary detention of elected officials not only undermines the very fabric of democratic governance, but also contravenes the will of the people as expressed through their electoral choices. It is imperative to recognise that the integrity of election results and the peaceful transfer of power are fundamental to the maintenance of democracy. Any attempt to alter election results through extrajudicial means or to use state machinery to suppress dissenting voices is vehemently opposed to the principles of democracy and human rights.
In light of these grave concerns, the IHRF calls on the relevant authorities in Pakistan to immediately and unconditionally release all persons detained under such arbitrary circumstances. We reiterate the need for Pakistan to uphold its international obligations by ensuring the protection of human rights, including the rights to freedom of expression, assembly and political participation. Respect for free, fair and genuine elections is the only way to restore democracy and the rule of law in the country. The international community stands in solidarity with those standing up for their democratic rights and urges the Government of Pakistan to cease all further acts of repression and to engage in a constructive dialogue aimed at upholding the principles of justice and human rights.
