Death Star surface and tunnel sequence supervised by Richard Edlund. To plan this you’d have to shoot the major surfaces first and then plot each ship. There is some re-use of exploding x-wings from Star Wars, as well as a lot of musical motifs from the end battle

One of the most famous images is the AT-ATs. Concept artist Joe Johnstone came up with the idea based on designs that Syd Mead (Blade Runner concept artist) had done for US Steel. And from that, Joe Johnstone designed the look of the AT-ATs.
