Elites fighting elites, no need to shed tears but some details on Hashwani vs Zardari-Military:
Behind the scenes of the Pearl-Continental saga, the Hashwani family’s hospitality empire is being dismantled through an orchestrated corporate squeeze. The battle centers on Pakistan Services Limited (PSL), where outside interests acquired a roughly 56% voting majority by exploiting disputed share pledges and distressed market pricing. With state regulators and courts failing to provide an institutional shield, the family found itself outflanked within its own flagship publicly listed firm.
Once voting control was secured, Fauji Foundation moved in to orchestrate the carve-up, compelling the Hashwanis through a forced out-of-court settlement to surrender premier northern and garrison-adjacent properties, including PC Lahore, PC Bhurban, and PC Muzaffarabad. Simultaneously, corporate vehicles tied to the ruling civilian political apparatus specifically Thatta Cement, linked historically to the Omni Group and the inner circle of Zardari, have positioned themselves to take control of the southern assets, including PC Karachi.
Sadruddin Hashwani spent decades in a vicious personal feud with Zardari. While large industrialists historically survived civilian vendettas by seeking shelter with the military establishment, the current political reality leaves no room for such maneuvering, as the civilian coalition and military leadership now govern in direct alignment, subservience, partnership, SIFC, whatever else you want to call it.
The forced surrender of the PC hotel network sends an unambiguous signal to the wider business community. In Pakistan's current economic model, independent private conglomerates cannot maintain independence without state patronage. When ruling political figures and military-backed conglomerates set their sights on prime commercial assets, regulatory protections evaporate, leaving legacy family dynasties vulnerable to state-backed corporate absorption.
@mmqasimhashmi۔
Amir Rana founded and led one of Pakistan’s most credible security think tanks, @PAKPIPS. He has now resigned, and there is a much bigger story behind his departure, including how he was forced to cancel an international conference scheduled to take place in Islamabad last month.
His resignation reflects a growing sense of disillusionment among educated, informed and committed people who increasingly feel let down by the state. This is a significant loss.
Dear @AmirRana bhai,u did a remarkable job. Your contributions matter. Stay strong, don’t lose heart. This too shall pass.
No one has seen or heard from my father since August, when he explicitly said that he was being tortured and that the regime was trying to kill him like Egypt’s government did Morsi. The UN Special Rapporteur on torture has repeatedly stated that his treatment amounts to torture. Pakistan’s fascist regime, led by military dictator Asim Munir, continue to ignore the Supreme Court order from August for my father to be assessed and treated at the private Shifa International Hospital, as well as for regular access to family visits and access to his lawyers. It is clear that they are trying to kill him as he is by far the most popular political figure in the country, and they fear him. If the worst happens, no one should make any mistake who is responsible. It is Asim Munir with the approval of the illegitimate Pakistani government. Every government that continues to legitimise this regime will be complicit in this and the resulting chaos and destabilisation it causes in the region. No state that is engaging in friendly relations with this fascist Pakistani regime can truly claim to uphold the values of democracy or human rights.
🇵🇰 #Pakistan: I am deeply alarmed by the sentencing of human rights lawyers @ImaanZHazir and @AdvHadiali to 10 years in prison each. The reported concerns surrounding their jail trial, including restrictions on their ability to communicate effectively with counsel, raise serious questions about due process and fair trial guarantees. An illegally detained elderly lady without access to counsel or family taken to a heart hospital where her ward is locked up.
This is Pakistan in 2026 under @MaryamNSharif@CMShehbaz. Pathetic & shameful.
PAKISTAN: Responding to the conviction and ten-year imprisonment of Imaan Mazari-Hazir and Hadi Ali Chattha today by the Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad, Yasmine Ahmed, Senior Director for Regional Human Rights Impact at Amnesty International, said:
“These convictions are an indictment of Pakistan’s justice system. This was not just Imaan and Hadi on trial, it was a test of the judiciary’s ability to uphold the principles of justice and the right to fair trial. It has failed that test miserably. It is clear that these ‘anti-terrorism’ charges are being used to punish Imaan and Hadi for their human rights advocacy.”

Many health challenged, elderly women PTI members, supporters jailed for past three years. Never before have so many women political prisoners been jailed and denied free trials.
Imaan and Hadi are prisoners of conscience. Their convictions are cruel, vindictive, and textbook examples of using law and the judicial process as weapons of persecution
Imaan Mazari’s court testimony: “I am a prisoner of conscience who has been at the receiving end of state persecution since at least 2022 for my human rights and legal work. It is deeply painful for me that while my work on human rights has received recognition abroad, even today, my family and I continue to suffer reprisals for the same in my home country. I have not committed any crime and my track record attests to my deeply-held commitment to the rule of law. I also want to categorically state that standing against oppression, injustice and tyranny entails personal cost and suffering. This is a universal truth but history remembers those who resist injustice while those who perpetrate it are condemned for all times to come. We have been tried in a cage, in violation of our basic human dignity and our right to due process and fair trial, but we have complete peace of mind in the knowledge that God exalts who He wills to exalt and disgraces who He wills to disgrace.” #ReleaseImaanAndHadi
Pakistan's military-owned Margalla Heavy Industries has signed a $2.25 billion deal with an unnamed Chinese battery manufacturer and undisclosed local investors to build a lithium-ion battery plant in Rawalpindi. Even with the building ready and machines already installed, rollout is waiting on the federal cabinet to pass a state battery policy to lock in commercial protections. Battery manufacturing and green tech belong in the civilian sector, not behind opaque military contracts.
How can the military ever stay out of political engineering when it has multi-billion-dollar businesses at stake? Instead of focusing on national defense, it operates as a corporate syndicate that needs state power to pass favorable policies, protect its monopolies, and enrich itself at the expense of private enterprise.
