Scope the audio right: it's ASR + speech translation, not general audio understanding. And don't sleep on configurable image token budgets (70–1120 tokens/image) — real cost lever for multimodal agent loops.

@madebyoliver The model we added to our routing layer was DS4-Flash - it’s the one that returned DSML blocks instead of a tool call. That was the subject of my thread - maybe you didn’t see the full post. I really hope I’m not responding to a bot!

Added a cheaper model to our routing tier. It ignored our tool-calling contract and emitted vendor-specific markup as plain text instead.

The AI SDK didn't catch it — because it only normalizes native tool calls, not models pretending to call tools in prose.

Lesson learned the hard way.

Agents handle the transcription. They can't supply the oracle. Domain expertise was always the moat — now it's just visible.

When I see this, and read the volume increases in tokens (it's in the tens of trillions at this point), my first thought is that we've got to make local inference a first-class citizen of the AI ecosystem!
