NEWS: xAI plans to supply tens of thousands of GPUs to coding startup Cursor to train its upcoming Composer 2.5 AI model, marking a strategic shift toward providing cloud computing services to third-party developers.
The arrangement, according to Business Insider, allows Cursor to leverage xAI's massive infrastructure to develop advanced coding capabilities while providing xAI with a new revenue stream to offset data center costs. https://t.co/kJqJguR7eg
if A, then they should crack down on the Goodhart-ed objective and remove it entirely
if B, they will instead crack down on it by using the Goodharting as an excuse to add checks like query uniqueness that mostly optimize for distillation, but might have handwavy benefit to real coding
Conspiracy theory - what seems more likely:
A. meta doesn't know that you get what you optimize for
B. they want this to happen as an excuse to get a ton of usage from anthropic that looks real and isn't an organized distillation effort
IMO B seems way more likely (especially considering the pressure to give the impression they have a SOTA model)
Exclusive: Meta employees are βtokenmaxxingβ and competing on an internal leaderboard called βClaudeonomicsβ for status as a token legend.
Over a recent 30-day period, total usage on the dashboard topped 60 trillion tokens.
