Your MC comes out of your book, they know they're in the real world and that you created them. Do they search you out or start a new life away from you?
@darklogic2 I agree. When a story is fully researched, the details flow authentically. When the writer doesn't actually understand, it is painfully obvious to the reader in most cases.
@ViviAnneHunt Consider your theme(s). Any important lines. And, mostly, build a title that catches someone's eye. Contradictions do this well. Think Poisonwood Bible. Say what? I think that phrase is only mentioned once in the entire book. And yet it's the title and totally works.
@JacBuchanan_JB Love this question. Interestingly, none of my MCs share my ethics completely. But the ending of the series does. I never sermonize. Some of the characters do. But ultimately it doesn't end how any of them hope it will.
@writtenbyterra I also just wanted to travel haha. But specifically chose the destination based on my WIP. I was able to rewrite quite a bit from the experience.
@writtenbyterra Love it! I took a course on old mining techniques over YouTube. When videos weren't enough (sensory) I traveled to Death Valley for desert treks.
You know the creator of Stardew Valley is American. In the game, if you fall asleep outside your house, the fricken doctor charges you 1000 game bucks to put you in your house. If that isn't reflective of US Healthcare, not sure what is.
@BonnieDillabou2@Ssongweaver Unfortunately many trad publishers do very little in the way of marketing now. Often authors are expected to do much of their own marketing.
