logging back into twitter nearly a year after quitting social media bc my poem was published in @overexposedlit🦎
'december's dead, now' couldn't have found a better home

@dukenothingham what if there is physical evidence and there are witnesses?
cross-examination done respectfully is totally great. the thing is, from my experience, it's not always, or even usually, done respectfully.
@MorganaWhittler there's a difference between cross examination and telling a teenager testifying in court that she was raped because she wore leggings.
do defense attorneys need to be overtly disrespectful and cruel in their cross examination? idk, seems wrong to me.
@dukenothingham i'm all for rights, but i don't see why the legal system is set up to retraumatize victims/survivors of horroble crimes, and why defense attorneys treat these survivors in the manner they do.
i guess my real issue isn't with defense attorneys but with how they do their jobs.
@MorganaWhittler but do they need to mistreat survivors and retraumatize them to do that? is this really the best our society can do? my issue is not with the job itself but how it's performed.
defense done correctly does a great service to society. done poorly, it is indescribably harmful.
@dane_collins good defense attorneys exist & false accusations can happen, but i'm talking about clear cases where evidence shows the defendant's guilt. DAs aren't dumb, sometimes they even hear admissions of guilt. it's those cases that infuriate & confuse me.
@RTJenkinsAuthor running a personal injury firm solo 24/7, amphetamine fueled or not, would still be some pretty wild dedication
now i want a tv show about an amphetamine-fueled 24/7 lawyer who's just totally nuts, but he manages to win his cases anyway bc he's so 'passionate'
i love googling things purely to confuse the algorithm, like "can defense attorneys die"
i hope there's some search result analyzer out there staring at his screen, laughing & wondering if someone genuinely asked that.
unlikely? maybe. impossible? no.
@dane_collins that's exactly what i did lol
i found just writing down random ideas and thinking about where each would bring the story was very helpful
good luck on figuring out your ending!
i'm like 70% done a short story, but i can't decide how to end it. i really love the writing in this one, though, and i don't want to leave it unfinished.
trying to brainstorm by laying the possibilities out on paper. hopefully this works🤞
Follow your dreams. Write that novel, open that bakery, join that band of rabid squirrels that roams the neighborhood stealing nuts and smoking twigs and terrorizing residents in their little matching leather squirrel jackets.

out of curiosity, how many notebooks do you have/use?
i've filled around 20 notebooks in the past five-ish years. i like to plot stories and draft poetry on paper, and i love having a record of my thoughts about specific projects
@StokedOnWriting that's definitely good advice. i always try to think about the overarching tone and message i want in each story, often before fully developing the plot.
sidenote - while i'm sure his book is a great resource for writers, i'm a little disappointed in the title. pretty bland 😂
would you rather keep trying to survive in a hopeless, decaying world, or upload your mind to the web using an experimental, potentially deadly procedure?
